No, this blog was not a response to your statement. It was a response to the tons of threads I've seen that spread wrong information about PetSmart. (I've actually been writing it for a while - it was just coincidental timing that I posted it now, lol.) You didn't offend me at all - you were...
Whoa! Controversial, I know. Lol ;)
I wanted to post this as a thread, but it was too long, so I posted it as a blog. If you have some time and want to read some truth about PetSmart, check it out: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/hinoco1225/540-defense-petsmart.html
For the record...
Disclaimer: This blog is extremely long and may be controversial. Read at your own risk (lol).
I have a very different take on PetSmart than many other forum members. I actually work at PetSmart in the Pet Care department (don’t flay me – lol). For what it’s worth, I would like to attempt...
Just like people, they grow at different rates. I have a male and female veiled that are both about 6 months old, but my female is more than twice the size of the male. They are both very healthy though.
Your cham is a cute little guy :)
Update
So it turns out, my bearded dragon is infested with parasites. I took him to the vet today and got him dewormed, and I'll take him back in a couple of weeks to do another fecal to see if it's cleared up. The vet was very knowledgeable and helpful, which was nice. She said she thinks he...
He will be just fine with the calcium with D3 for a few days.
You're right - it makes no sense that many pet stores sell chameleons, but don't sell calcium without D3 (and a few other supplies they need). I actually brought this up at the pet store where I work when I got hired there a couple...
Did you tell her that you were shopping for a chameleon? In her defense, it is true that most reptiles do just fine with (or actually need) calcium with D3; chameleons are very different from most other lizards.
It is unfortunate that there are tons of people out there giving poor advice...
Hello Andrew, and welcome to the forums! Congrats on your new little guy - he is very cute. I'm glad you rescued him too - unfortunately it does support Petco's business, but at the same time, how can we let the little ones they have keep suffering? I think the best thing to do when rescuing...
He's gorgeous!! Congrats :D
Is he a Circle Side baby? I almost purchased one of them, but then I ended up buying from Lance Lindgren instead. But I really like the Circle babies too :)
Hahaha, we should start a club!! I drive my girlfriend crazy talking about chams too! She also hates how much time I spend on this site and it's very possible that she might leave me if I get another reptile before we move into a bigger place. I really don't know how I managed to get away with...
Someone else please jump in if you disagree, but personally, I do not believe a reptile would starve itself to death if it has access to food. It's like a child who only wants ice cream - do you give in because he refuses to eat anything else? You shouldn't. Lizards can be pretty stubborn, but...
I added another bulb to his enclosure today, and he really seemed to perk up after an hour or so. I didn't offer any food because I didn't get the new bulb on until early evening and I don't like to feed any later than mid-afternoon. So maybe the temps were the big problem - we'll see what...
Just to clarify, I don't claim by any means that superworms or mealworms alone cause impactions. I know that there are numerous other factors, but that still doesn't mean it's a good idea for the OP to feed supers every day even if they are doing everything else perfectly. I am only relaying...
Yeah, I agree that not all exoskeletons cause impactions, but for whatever reason it seems more likely with supers than crickets, roaches, and locusts in my experience. Maybe a combination of the exoskeleton and the fattiness of supers makes them harder to digest overall? I know that my bearded...
Personally, I have only bought supers once and I never offered more than two at a time about once a week. But that is airing on the side of caution. I'm sure you'd be fine to give a few more than that, but definitely don't offer them every day.
Tip about feeding them: anytime you see a...
Well fed in excess, supers can cause impactions too. I've seen it several times at the pet store where I work. I know they're meatier, but that doesn't cancel out the hard exoskeleton.
One of my customers only feeds his beardie supers and doesn't keep him on sand. And he's been impacted...
