I just went through the same thing. I tracked down where they were getting into the house and put bait poison there (away from the cham cage). They took the bait - stopped looking for food in the enclosure and after about 5 days stopped seeing them all together.
Wow! Great finish to a great first round.
Could not have asked for better match-ups for round 2 out of the west. Hawks v. Canucks and Wings v. Sharks - this is gonna be fun!
The east is now irrelevent - at least until one of the teams advances to the finals to try and pull an upset.
Sounds like an interesting project. Your plan sounds fine. Decreasing the air exchange rate between the enclosure and the room is one way to help retain moisture vapor and keep humidity levels from dropping off too quickly. But, as you mentioned, this also means a decrease in ventilation so...
Standing rib roast rubbed down with fresh rosemary, garlic and salt; slow cooked to 135 a shot of Jameson and vodka gimlit dessert (last Sunday but still on my mind):D.
Great story! This is a thread that should be read beginning to end. The best I have read on this forum and really - the epitome of why forums like this are a good thing.
The only sub-plot I take issue with is those that have problems with the name "sweetness". 34! Those who know that...
This brings back memories....transplanted Chicagoan living in Fort Collins, CO when the Avs came to town. Many nights in bars with my Blackhawk's jeresy on catching all kinds of crap as Avs handed our ass to us. The early Wings Avs. playoff series were an enjoyable blood bath. The two teams I...
NY Rangers - OUCH! rough weekend.
While I'd love to see a Hawks v Caps final odds are it's not going to happen. Both have 3 series to win against tough teams first. Ove would be the best player on the ice and may be bigger than 99% of the Hawks. However, that 1% would be Dustin Byfulien...
Can't wait for playoff hockey to start! Spent many of my younger years in the "old" Chicago Stadium watching the Blackhawks. After a couple decades under the thumb of a selfish owner the SOB finally died and hockey is back in Chicago!
I am hoping for a Hawks v. Redwings matchup with the...
The zoo med combo has worked well for me. Only one tube UVB but supports additional basking bulbs (up to 75W) and 6500K CFL for plants.

Do you have (or can you borrow) a mercury thermometer? An Hg thermometer is a primary standard that can be used to check accuracy/calibration of other devices.
If not then take Xantho's advice. The digital is most likely to be correct simply because the other is analog and the gun measures...
As a heads up - noticed you are in NY which means your humidity set up is going to change based on outdoor conditions. During summer you may be fine with just misting but use of air conditioning could cause levels to be lower or higher each day. During winter you'll find it difficult to keep...
I picked up the 30 inch Zoo Med Combination Hood from LLL about a month ago. Working great so far. Holds the UVB tube, basking bulb (up to 75 watts) and a 6500K CFL for plants. My enclosure is 30 inches long and 4 feet high so I was able to set up a 40W bulb on one side and 75W on the other...
I normally don't chime in on posts like this due to it being mostly opinion based (already know who stands where from other threads). Also, I have much less cham experience than others and not enough background to have developed my own opinion yet. But to the sterility portion of this...
That's a very good point. Successful publishers have tackled this by knowing their audience and targeting information to their level of interest/knowledge. For example: the "For Dummys" series does a great job in providing basic off the shelf information but would be a waste of time for anyone...
I completely agree with your post (as I would likely agree with anyone in CSU's CVMBS program :D).
I do think the example might not be apples to apples. We should assume that what our doctor's know is in fact knowledge that they have received through review and critique of controled...
Sad story - sorry to hear it.
I would also doubt fungal (but I'm not a vet). I do know that molds grow relatively slowly and to cause that much damage is a short time frame would be unlikely. Also, mold on leaves is very common and exposure to these types of mold occurs in high levels on a...
Great discussion. My 2 cents for what it's worth:
Cham husbandry is without question a science. In order for any advances in practice the results of any successful deviation from the norm must meet the basic scientific criteria of being relevent, reliable (good science) and reproducible...
I think you will find many creative ways to keep moisture in. Mostly from those of us who have not yet figured out that we should move to avoid winter.
I picked up a few sheets of Elmer's brand foam (not construction paper) poster board (available at wallmart, target, office depot...etc.)...
