WARNING! T5HO fixtures, NOT ALL come with a UVB bulb

There is no blue. It’s white lights or white and red. Those are my two options. And yes, we do plant growth lessons in biology class. I teach high school. Physical science, biology and earth & environmental science. Dexter is talked about a lot!

WARNING! T5HO fixtures, NOT ALL come with a UVB bulb

Ok, so that red light is NOT harmful? That's good to know then. Which "on" should I use? The red/white or just the white? Does it matter? Should I alternate which I use? Also, I am a high school science teacher, so all of this plays into our curriculum, which is awesome. We haven't reached...

WARNING! T5HO fixtures, NOT ALL come with a UVB bulb

Ugh! Why do they sell that light for chameleons then? Poor Dexter. I’ll make sure it’s off from now on.

WARNING! T5HO fixtures, NOT ALL come with a UVB bulb

Quick question on the Reptisun. My fixture has the uvb bulb (with it's own switch) and then the other light bulb (LEDs I think?) that consists of the switch going on/off/on. The two "on" motions are one with the white bulbs and one with both red and white. Which should I be using? Is the red...

Question on trust building with my veiled cham

No, he gets 10 bugs at least in the am. He eats most of them, sometimes leaves some. Then 10 again in the afternoon. He loves the little crickets, and just recently the small dubias (before he didn’t prefer them). He will eat the BSFL but they wiggle the least so they seem to be his least...

Question on trust building with my veiled cham

Oh wow! 6 months!! He was maybe 7-8g when we got him. He’s been gaining about 2g per week. He went to the vet-parasite check came back negative. This was back at the beginning when he wouldn’t eat with us dropping a bug in his gaping mouth (you can probably see that post). He now’s eats on his...

Question on trust building with my veiled cham

This is the day we got him, March 30th. The man at repticon that we got him from said he was one month old. You are right-he is about 8” long (4.5 in body no tail). His current weight is 22g.

Question on trust building with my veiled cham

Yes! That’s the blog. It’s very helpful, thank you! I thought I read somewhere that when you put your hand in, go slow and if they gape just be patient and wait until they stop. Don’t go forward or pull back. Is that not wrong? This is why when he does these odd things with his mouth I have...

Question on trust building with my veiled cham

Dexter is about 4 months old now. We have been working to build trust after reading the blogs. He now associates my hand with food. A few times when he is at the cage door area and looking out, I will open the door and put my hand out. He will look everywhere on my hand for a bug. Sometimes...

I've been following this thread (newbie here, so no advice), and I'm wondering how your little one is doing? Is she eating yet?

    Baby Veiled Chameleon basking/lighting help

Ok, thank you so much for all your help! He hasn't shot his tongue out yet--that I've seen that is. I don't want to hope for parasites, but I do hope we get a resolution for why he's not eating. At this rate, I'm managing to get about 4-5 feeders a day in him, so at the least he has some...

    Baby Veiled Chameleon basking/lighting help

I meant keep trying with the tongs. He has had food available 24/7 since he came home. I count the feeders, and he hasn’t eaten one—even when he’s been by himself for hours. I had to move the white dish because I had to rearrange some plants in the enclosure when I cleaned it out. Then I got the...

    Baby Veiled Chameleon basking/lighting help

Thanks for the responses. I've lowered his basking temp down to 80, and now he's still hanging up on the ceiling, but directly under the basking bulb instead of the UV bulb. I put my hand directly under the bulb on top of the screen and I don't find it too hot, so hopefully he's okay doing...

    Baby Veiled Chameleon basking/lighting help

Enclosure pics. His basking lamp is back left. His Reptisun 5.0HO lamp combo is half hanging half resting up 2 inches off cage. If I hang both sides it pushes basking bulb to shine back Benin’s cage instead of inside, so that’s why it’s lopsided (for now until he stops ceiling hanging.

    Baby Veiled Chameleon basking/lighting help

Thanks for the info. I’ve read to keep the basking at 84, but I’ll definitely lower. I’m posting pictures of my guy and his enclosure. I got him at Repticon and the guy said he was about a month old. I’ve had him a week today. He has not eaten without assistance. I have assisted him by using...

    Baby Veiled Chameleon basking/lighting help

No, I have a Reptisun 5.0 I read they need lower heat temps-basking at 84. Is this incorrect?
