For a young female I would say no more than 8 appropriate sized crickets ( or equal volume to) per day.
When she is an adult, I and a lot of keepers I know and respect feed our females 5-6 per day, or 8-10 every two or three days.
Honestly the longest lived, healthiest, problem-free...
Ok now that that can never be unseen.......srsly though I have had this happen in a few of my chams when I had to force feed them. It only ever happened with superworms, and when it was messy.
As long as there is no swelling, I feel there is no significant problem.
Their chromatophores are...
Though I commend you for saving her from Pet Smart.......don't be overzealous in your endeavor. Especially now that she IS in good hands.
She looked pretty healthy at Pet Smart, and now she looks a little plump considering it's only been 7 days.
There is always the argument between...
Not so much useful info yet....so I will try to give some advice.
Using GLASS vivs is relative to your situation. Kinda like being a vegetarian...if you are East Indian you probably have B blood type and can't digest meats so well, however if you are European trying to be a vegetarian you are...
Oh as for sleeping, I have had chams choose the same spot for 3-4 years...same spot every night, same time. Why you think a cham knows we have daylight saving's time is beyond me though :):D
Hi HyperC,
Chameleons are the easiest reptile to care for so long as you don't F*** a few things up.
1) Do not oversupplement: They are much more sensitive to supplements than most commonly available reptiles. You want to use a PLAIN CALCIUM every feeding. When you dust your bugs, you want...
Hey Julia glad you are posting here and I hope someone chimes in.
Reason I say she is preggo is because I have cut up dead females that were gravid and it's obvious to me that she has some embryos developing exactly there they should be.
The only thing those masses could be in that position...
In Amsterdam they kept several male veileds together in this vivarium @ the zoo. There was another vivarium the same size that housed several females.
I have met other keepers who kept 1.3 veileds together for years. I've also read on the forum of a male panther and male quadricornis that...
Several years ago when roaches first became really popular they were $100 for 100 mixed sized dubia here in Canada. It took them 3 or 4 years to go down to $80, now they are about $40-60 still.
I bought all mine for $20/100 though from friends.
They are more expensive because you are only...
I also agree with 5-6 every few days, or 2-3 per day.
IMO overfeeding has more to do with egg production than temperature based on my experience so you are asking the right question.
Doing this, I have prevented a lot of my females that I keep as pets (no breeding) from laying eggs for over 16...
Start breeding them. You'll make enough money to support the hobby and if you do it right...you'll be able to pay your car off.
Breeding chameleons makes it so much more of a hobby than just keeping a bunch of males as pets IMO. Raising 20 babies from hatchling to adult is very...
Very sorry to hear this this is very sad :( :( :( :( :(
As with everything, what can we learn from it? What was the cause of the tear in his throat?
Great photos of the champ.
The OP is a poet.
What Does It Take
by CaliChameleon
I live in California where no hibiscus grow
but they have them at Home Depot
and I just want to know
is it possible to have one in my chameleon's cage successfully [yo]?
And if so,
what do I need to do to make it live? Thanks...
What are the exact symptoms? When he does a hiss, can you hear a 'pop' sound like a small bubble bursting?
Sounds like a really mild case or beginnings of a respiratory infection.
Spray his cage only twice a day for the next week or so, but make sure none of the water hits his face...
It's always the same people defending questionable practices ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I have seen this happen in 3 pet stores I am close with where I live, one of them it happens regularly. Though they are a little smarter not to throw them in the trash, they flush animals or simply toss em in...
I'm saying Komodo dragons are only 3,000 strong. They are one of the top 'Kings' of the reptile predators on earth. If, for argument's sake, 50% are females and they lay a decently large clutch of 20-30 eggs only once a year (panthers lay 2-4+ x a year) , 1500 x 25 = 37,500 offspring for the...
