Following up on our "Do Chameleons have memory?" discussion I wanted to discuss the possibility of territorial marking and scent and its effect on chameleons. Just to reiterate it was suggested that chameleons use taste as a way of identifying their surroundings.
I have 5 different trees that...
Hectic.
If at any point someone has to put a little one down please no bricks or freezers.
Use vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to create carbon dioxide, enough to fill a small container. Either pipe it in or put it in a smaller container inside the container. Its denser than air so will...
My dwarfs will dab their tongues to taste every new surface or tree they move onto, including when they climb onto people. When put onto unfamiliar surfaces (or people) they become much more cautious and timid and won't move around as much. I'm pretty sure they build a comprehensive network of...
Thanks for the votes and the congrats :)
Had a cracker of a shoot yesterday and got some real beauties of everyone but I thought seeing as my favorite little girl won the contest yesterday I'd share the best ones I got of her.
I think she has retained sperm from her last mating and is now...
You can try feeding your crickets different fruits/citrus to make them taste different. Its good to mix it up anyway to get a varied diet and so your cham doesn't associate the crickets with a specific taste. They can get bored of certain tastes or become picky eaters, especially if there is...
Also the ratio of phosphorous to calcium is important. Supplements for different reptiles have different ratios. A common mistake new keepers make is thinking they can use any reptile supplement. For chameleons you need to use a supplement with a 2:1 ratio of calcium to phosphorous.
I'm also a huge fan of the crystals although I've not tried the pillows. Do the pillows have issues with cricket poop diffusing into them?
I like that I can just throw out the crystals if they get dirty or a cricket decides to die in them.
Not so much a room as a balcony. My setup works because I work from home and so I'm always there to shift plants in and out of the sun depending on how hot it is, or back inside if the wind picks up. None of my bonsai plants, potted greens or flowers are in this pic as there is just to much...
Just a follow up on this : 10 days on Baytril and the cysts are completely gone. I was going to post some before and after pics but can't seem to find the before which is a pity. Hopefully they'll turn up.
So to answer my own question : No it's not always necessary to drain cysts. In retrospect...
Most ants release an acidic substance as a defence, I've tasted this first hand by mistake and its horrible. I've seen my chams shoot ants and spit them right out. Its not a taste you go for twice.
Two of my neos have developed mouth rot, possibly from bad fruitfly cultures or crickets. Needless to say I've chucked all the feeders and bought more.
I took them to the Vet yesterday and was given a dilute solution of antibiotics (Baytril I think, to be honest I forgot to ask) to be given...
Followed by one I found from last year when she was heavily pregnant, I think about a week and a half before she gave birth to 8.
Lastly is my darling little runt who passed away on Monday. My girl and I were gutted as we had been feeding him cricket milkshakes through a dropper twice a day...
