Ya I have also seen vids of pinkies being fed and goldfish too....
Thus I have seen vids of people smacking into walls and breaking bones

Bare tanks are best. Unsightly but it is better to have a healthy chameleon and lighter on your wallet since healthy chams = no emergency vet stops than to go with the substrate and possibly take the chance of injurying ur Cham. Plus substrate tends to collect bacteria
ive heard from several people Gout from too much animal protein since Chameleons are insectivores and not carnivores..... Ive also heard from others that it could be beneficial
I dont think 1 wouldd cause the gout though.... I think it would take several
