Thanks for the replies! I AM almost at max capacity! lol I gotta do a big clean & re-build/arrange of the cham room, I'll post some pics as I finish. All my chams are caged & just one per. For me it seems way easier to control food, water & light that way. Yea... they sure do get messed up by...
Just picked up another. I figure it to be about a year and a half maybe 2 years old, judging by size comparisons with my others. It needs to put on a little weight but is eating well & drinking like mad! The thing got so excited when the mister came on... snapping and shooting at the water...
I have had male & female veiled chams dig shelters to sleep in when kept outside. I've even had one who dug in a potted plant inside the house and slept there every night when free-ranged. Cheers!
I have used MV bulbs for years. I found the Zoo-Med bulbs to be very fragile, the slightest bump or thump would blow the filament when hot. I was happy with the Exo-Terra brand till I got a solar-meter... Now I'm surprised and disappointed by their low UVB output! I have yet to find the Mega-Ray...
I had a rough green tree snake, along with a couple of anoles, in an arboreal style planted glass viv years ago... I really enjoyed it. It was pretty cool to watch it hunt bugs. Cheers!
Cage size would depend on the size of the mellers you get... I have started small/young mellers out in 18x18x30 inch cages and moved them up cage sizes as they grew. A meller around the size of an adult male panther or veild would do ok in a 2x2x4 foot but you would need to be ready to move it...
I haven't bred chams since the 90s so I have no experience with new incubators. I used the classic tupperware & perilite method with great results. I placed thermometers with a hi/low memory in almost every closet, cupboard & drawer till I found places stable and in the range I wanted. Worked...
CB & CH Mellers are quite rare. Most are WC imports. It has been my experience that young (smaller) ones acclimate better/easier to captivity. I have also observed that while they may be more tolerant of each other than say, panthers and veileds, they do seem to enjoy their own...
That's a great lookin meller you've got there! To clear up some misinfo about the "secret" sexing method... I got the PM and yes, it does involve popping. Ouch! Don't try this at home kids! I think it's best to keep that s**t "secret" LOL Cheers!
I hope the little one pulls through for you. I believe the problems start back at the original importers where they don't really have the space, facilities or knowledge to properly house the hundreds of chams that come in each shipment. Just cramming them into what ever over crowded and less...
I agree with what Jessica said... No real way to tell the age of a WC. I have a couple of juvies that I'm guessing to be about a year, they were tiny when I picked them up last november, about the size of a three month panther and are now larger than my adult male panther. Here are a few pics of...
I adopted an umbrella cockatoo named Edgar a few years ago... Beautiful animal, but I really had no idea what owning a large bird would require. Eddy stayed with me for about a year till I found him a good forever home. I have alot of great memories of my time with Eddy and visit him once & a...
My homes for my adult melleri aren't as large a Jessica's but still pretty big, 7x5x2.5 and 4x4x2. I have juvies in 4x2x2s that will need larger homes later this year. Cheers!
