    Update on my melleri

I haven't posted anything concerning my melleri in awhile, so I thought I'd post an update. Both chams are doing great. My male that had the bad URI has recovered nicely, and is steadily gaining weight. Unfortunately, his right eye, the eye that had the bad infection, is obviously blind. I think...

    Mellers cham supplements

I give my vitamin/minerals and D3 twice a month, with no other calcium supplementation. I feed dubia, crickets, and superworms all fed a high quality, high calcium diet. Spring through Fall I feed all the large bugs I can catch, they really like cicadas, mantids, grasshoppers, and katydids...

Any hope for old Mistking nozzles?

I haven't had to clean mine yet, but when I do, I'm going to set up a small tub of vinegar and hook up the pump to recirculate the vinegar through it and the nozzles for a few hours. Leland

I didn't think I would be back in the health forum but I am!

Didn't you initially post about your new melleri passing worms in its feces? Assuming this is the same Cham, did you treat it for the worms or have a fecal sample tested? Leland

    Fenbendazole (Safe-Guard)

Panacur is cheap. My vet sold me enough to treat my chams roughly 20 times for under $20. Its not a controlled substance, so you don't need a prescription for it, but you certainly need to know how to properly dose it. Leland

So impressive, you have this down to a science. What do you do for drainage in your free ranges and cages? I noticed nice wood floors beneath the males, with no plastic or catch trays. Leland

Andreas, During the colder months, do you free range your adults inside on the trees you posted pictures of or do you have large cages for them as well? If so can you post a picture of the large cages? Im debating on building large cages for my melleri, and only free ranging them seperately...

Powdery Mildew on Plants! Any Help?

Remove the plant, repot it and wash the leaves with soap and water. Wash all the dirt off of the roots, and repot with a good draining soil. This should help, I had one get black powdery mold on its leaves, and it fixed my problem. Leland

    Awesome Free-range tutorial on Instructables

Very cool, but quite a few code violations, and potential to flood the house if the misting system components should fail, or if the small drain would clog. Great room, but always important to plan for the worst case scenario. Leland

How to prevent damage to hardwood floors from misting system?

I use large leafy plants around my misting heads so the leafs catch the mist overspray and prevent it from hittting my wood floors. The mist is obviously very fine with mistking heads, so if a ceiling fan is running with the mister on, it will blow the mist around and cause more of a overspray...

    Electrical safety and fire risk

Oh Haha, sorry. I didn't get to your post before I wrote mine. I have the nest thermostat now and love it, I plan to install a few of the protects in the future. Leland

    Electrical safety and fire risk

On top of all the above suggestions, NEST makes a new very good smoke & carbon monoxide detector that can alert 911 and send you a txt/email during fires or high CO. Also speaks in different volumes to wake or alert you. It will disable the furnace and other appliances if the CO gets detectable...

Bobby, Thanks for the info. The ultra vitalux is available in the US, it runs about $75 a bulb. You would need a transformer to step it up to 220-230v, and I think they run about $35. I was curious if he could light 3-4 cages at a time, or if it's just used 20min per cage individually. While...

Drainage Systems for Cages - get creative!

Make sure it's not tempered glass first, or it will shatter when drilled. You can wear a glove and use sandpaper to smooth the glass around the hole too. A 3/4" or 1" bulkhead would allow plenty of drainage and you can attach PVC to the drain then. Bulk Reef Supply carries all the bits and...

The ultra vitalux is a much more powerful light than the 6% Arcadia lights most of us are using over our cages everyday. How many cages can it light at one time? Leland
