It looks really nice but if you use house flies and fruit flies in their diet ( which I highly recommend you do), then the cell size of the screen will not be adequate for containment. Just something to consider.
I went as well. The chameleons available were the walking dead! The worst quality animals I have seen at that show ever. One of the sponsors of this forum had a few and they were just plain terrible. It seemed like they had brought their sick stock just to get rid of them to people who know...
Thanks for the side by side photo. At 35 watts, it's quite impressive. I'll send you my solar meter to post your results. I need it back, but you can borrow it for a few days. Please post your results in the lighting thread. Send me your address in a PM and I'll get the solar meter right out...
Learning new things everyday! This info. was brought up in another thread and after reviewing the manufacturers information, these lighting systems may have just raised the bar. Like mini versions of the sun!:)
If I wasn't leaving the country for a while I'd buy these tomorrow...
Can we see a picture of yours being used in the habitat ? I would like to see how bright they are. Really, if these new exoterra bulbs are as good in person as they seem on paper they will sell a ton of them to the right keepers. Thanks for sharing the info.
WOW, I just checked the exoterra website and they do Claim UVB with metal halides. I stand corrected. In fact those look fantastic. Clearly very specialized bulbs. I like it. Possibly the "best" new lighting for our chams. OMG did you see the pricing?
I just checked using my solar meter 6.2, on a 600 watt metal halide for my Orchid farm. So absolutely 100% positive that metal halides DO NOT emit any UVB. Can we see the packaging?
If you are asking for opinions on performance when compared to good lighting, I would say poor performance.
Many house plants can SURVIVE in most houses with marginal lighting, hence they are house plants. But, house plants with great lighting are more robust, grow faster, have stronger, more...
Metal halides DO NOT emit UVB.
Metal halide lighting DOES offer very good lumen penetration and output which results in thriving vegetative plant growth.
Photosynthesis can not take place without the proper lighting spectrum and volume of lumens, and that requirement varies from plant to plant.
A T8 UVB bulb by itself doesn't provide enough food for plant health sustainability. High quantities of lumens in the spectrum of 5000k- 6500K are...
Three things.
1. Veilds are a hot loving species. You do not need high humidity.
2. Because of the small size cage and a light sitting on top it will be nearly impossible to maintain higher humidity.
3. Screen enclosures do not hold humidity. Temporary at best.
18" is way too short and can...
Mike, If you received a 36" T5ho fixture I can send you some 5000K bulbs that will blow away any 6500K bulb. The 6500K is dim and washes out the color in comparison . No charge. I had to buy a case of 50 so I have a lifetime supply.
