Happy 5th Birthday Beman and Newbie Inspiration

Can't believe it's been 5 years, but your progression pics are fantastic, and yet another great tool you are using to help the chameleons in our community. Happy Hatchday Beman and just remember, 5 is the new 3 ;)

    Pot size for walls

He was just re-homed to me in April, and that's what they had named him. He came from a friend of mine who didn't think she was up to taking care of a chameleon, but she did request I keep his name. My other guy is Turk - also re-homed and I kept his name because I loved watching Scrubs. My...

    Pot size for walls

Here's my cage. There are 4 pots - 3 with pothos, and a wandering jew on the right. In the front is a money tree. My male veiled Reggie is to the right, heading to his basking light.

    Pot size for walls

I use 4-5 pots along the sides and back and have 1 big plant on the ground in the front. I put the pots 1/2 way up the cage so that they can be watered with the mister and have room to grow up. I'll try to take a pic of my cage now that the lights are on.

    Pot size for walls

I can tell you from experience, use the bigger pots and forget about 4". I use 8" plastic pots, and sealed them in, and then I slide my pots the same size that are potted with plants into the "holder" pots. The expanding foam will hold everything in place, and what I found is that the smaller...

2 years of happiness, congrats Bella

Congrats on your 2 year mark with your little girl. I don't mean to be a downer, however you may want to monitor her temps and her diet - 5 clutches in 2 years is a big toll to take on a chameleon's body, and will shorten her lifespan. I just want you to have the longest time possible with her!

    Grain mites prevention

Welcome to the joys of keeping superworms. I hate to tell you this, but this is something that you will always deal with, unfortunately. I've found a few things that have worked for me in the past so maybe some will be useful. 1. Place papertowels under your superworm bin and spray them with...

New Chameleon and hes not the only one stressed out ..

My suggestion is to treat this as you would any experiment when you are trying to dial in your humidity levels. Change one thing at a time, and make observations. If you change multiple things at once you won't know what worked and what didn't. Good luck!

Critical Thinking: Should We Give Chameleons Water Cups?

Oh don't worry, I wasn't implying that either you or I would actually use water cups for our chameleons, perhaps I didn't phrase my comment properly. When I said I have changed my husbandry habits from your podcasts I was more thinking of nighttime humidity and misting cycles, not this...

    Gum…

They are gummy chameleons, my husband bought me 5 bags for Christmas! They are really good, but if you've never had Haribo before you should know that they are denser than American gummy bears, and a bit tougher to chew. Just a note in case you have any loose fillings in your teeth.

    Travels as a Chameleon keeper.

I've taught both my neighbor and a pet sitter how to care for my chams, but I have no more than 3 at any one time. I write out EVERYTHING, and label it by date. As for dusting, I put labels on the containers and really make it dummy-proof. I have automatic misters and lights, which I can...

New Chameleon and hes not the only one stressed out ..

It's totally normal to spend the first months, heck, the first couple of years in full-on panic mode! As mentioned, you noticed an issue and that's the first step, as well as an important one! Is your cage screened in the front, and top? Slightly tough for me to tell, and I'm a little too...

Can you tell if a chameleon is wild caught

I've heard and can't confirm if it's true, but the FL WC males tend to have higher casques than CB. But I agree with the above - keep the new cham separate and get them tested before any cross contamination occurs.

Critical Thinking: Should We Give Chameleons Water Cups?

Bill, I thought it was a great episode, though I will admit I was driving while listening, and as you started the episode by asking the question I screamed "NO" in my car. Thankfully I didn't have any passengers, though anyone who would have been in there know me well enough not to be...

    Liver infection

Dr. Bruce is amazing, and the reason I have no issue driving 7+ hours roundtrip to see him! Glad he's getting your boy all fixed up. When I have to give meds I don't squirt straight in their mouths, but instead aim for the back corner to avoid aspiration.

Fungus gnats ,will mosquito bits help?

You can re-pot your plants with 1/2 ABG mix, 1/2 regular soil which helps the plant drain and not attract them as much. Also, you can get a Katchy on Amazon, they really work quite well. Good luck!
