    what is considered young......I was told when I got mine he was about 15 months old, but he seems so much smaller than my buddies when his was that age and he is hitting a couple big growth spurts now. I can tell in his overall weight and size, and his veil on has gotten a lot bigger

    Does the shedding happen a lot? If I feed him more that probably means he is going to grow quicker, which means he will shed more frequently? I keep everything misted well and the humidity where it should be....

    I took out that waterfall and the crushed coconut and it seemed to have made the enclosure bigger by about 4 inches which is cool, and now there is a lot less clean up lol.....i figured so much change would have bothered him, but he is still acting normal

    Yea my p cooter male is trying to breed with one of the females, but she is not being receptive.....i would like her to lay some eggs, but im thinking she is still a little too small....she is about 6 inches, but not even 2 yrs old yet....the male is the same age but he is about 9...

    you just put the rocks on top of the soil???? that's what your tellin me....I and that would still keep the humidity up.....i live where the humidity isn't great most of the time and is dry in the house as well.....and I keep him in a reptarium right now......until I build him something...

    i don't know.....he seems to like the waterfall.... I mean, I clean it out regularly so it doesn't get dirty, and kind of agree about the coconut shell.....I think when I clean it out, I am going to use nothing at the bottom.....it will actually give me about 4-5 more inches of up and down room...

    I use i think it is called crushed coconut shell.....it keeps the humidity in the cage very well and kind of gives it a natural look to it with the vines waterfall and what not

    I've got a Red Eared Slider, an Eastern Painted, 2 Peninsula Cooters and a Yellow belly. I'm thinking they are going to be trying to breed here before long....anyone else have any water turtle with any successful breeding secrets??

    I tried the cup feeding, and left them in there for up to 3 days and he just wasn't having that......today he seemed to spruce up and actually hunt for them....i've only had him for a couple weeks now....so I think he is now used to the surroundings.....
