The formica removable side panels are 2 sided 1/2" particle board. So yes they are nice on both sides. They are just a snug fit in the oak frame work. I in fact am not useing them at this time. I just bumped up my misting times a tad. So its open 3 sides. The back panel stays so you dont see...

I mist every 1 1/2 hr for 30-45 seconds... Just enough to dampen things.

For you outside free rangers.... Dont you ever get paranoid about just letting them hang out?? I saw a video once where a kid and his dad were playin' with thier pet rat on a picnic table & a hawk come out of nowhere and just took it away in 1 fast swoop! they both just sat there... like...

All I payed for was the hood, the screen and a few bucks for our finish guy to stain and spray it. I made it outta some materials that was left over from some other jobs:D Like I mentioned before... Only the dripper catch has a drain... I dont pump tons of water thru my cage,,, I lightly mist...

All I can say is...Its not hard if you have all the tools;) I could have made it alot fancier by putting a nice base molding around it and some crown molding at the top too. There really isnt anything fancy about it...Its just nice wood .If you start with good stuff... it makes good stuff:rolleyes:
