I put a moss covered vine in my cage for the same reasons. In the month I've had the chameleon, I've never seen my cham choose to walk on it. The only time it does is to step over it to get to the other non-moss vines. Based on the set up of my enclosure, this is not random chance, it is active...
Never release them!! Its very important to never release anything into the wild. You can unintentionally do a lot of harm.
If you need to kill anything and dont want to just smoosh them, put them in a bag or container and pop em in the freezer.
I'm interested in hearing how this goes! I have a young jacksons, and leaving the basking light on for 12 hours a day makes it overheat (even though the temps never go above 81), so I have been switching it off during the day when the mister goes off to let the cage and bulb cool down. My cham...
Is it better to provide the whole colony of feeders (ie the 500+ crickets you have or the 100+ dubias, whatever) with highly nutritious food all the time, or is it better to give them what they need to survive and then pull some out the night before for the healthy feast? (Never mind the cost of...
I am always looking at other people's enclosures to get new ideas to improve my chameleon cage. I have loved a lot of the live wall photos, and when searching youtube to see how people built them I came across a live wall someone built in their homes using a plant pouch...
Hello community!
Everyone has been so helpful so far getting my first chameleon all set up. I just received the little bugger, and I had a quick question regarding his basking temp.
Chameleon: 6-7 month old male Jacksons
Humidity: steady at 40-50 during the day, up at night with cool mist...
Ok, after making the suggested adjustments, here is the new setup! The new UVB is coming in the next few days, so I will switch the existing uvb light to a plant grow light for the pothos. Basking temp is 78-79. Automatic mister installed in the corner. Dripper will go in if urates aren't white...
@JacksJill
How do you set your automatic mister to have that time schedule? Did you buy a separate timer to plug the mister into? I have the monsoon solo, so all I can do is pick hour intervals and one length of sprayer time.
Thanks!
I appreciate the feedback. I know I'll need to adjust according to my own micro-conditions, I just wasnt sure where to start!
This weekend I am buying a bathroom cabinet and skin top to put the cage right over. I'll drill some holes in the plastic and put a bucket under the cabinet. Viola...
Thank you all for the input. I will definitely go with a breeder.
A few quick questions as I continue to fiddle with the setup.
When my automatic mister arrives, what time intervals are best? 3x a day for 5 mins? Before lights, mid day, then before lights out? Or something different?
Also, I...
Thank you all for your help! Unfortunately, the chameleon I was going to get passed away before I could take her home. The associates at Petco said they were just waiting on a final vet checkup before they could sell her. After they called to say she wasnt available anymore, I found out that...
Thank you so much for the feedback! I will work on the changes and updates that you and everyone else has suggested. This forum is wonderful!
If I buy a mistking for the day and humidifier for night time humidity, do I need a dripper?
Thanks again everyone!
Thank you Amanda, I read more about it after reading your suggestion. I'm annoyed that the light they provided for my chameleon cage is insufficient for chameleons!
Hello! I am getting my first ever chameleon soon, and I have been setting up the cage in preparation. Any feedback?
Chameleon: female jacksons, 4 months
Cage size: 16 x 16 x 30
Handling: only when necessary
