I asked this on another thread, but never got a real answer. Are there any good chameleon vets in or around Alabama? I know that there are many near Orlando, but it is about eight hours away and I don't want to have to drive that far.
Last night I replaced my chameleon's 75 watt bulb with a 60 watt one. Unfortunately, I caught him gaping again earlier today. He closes his mouth as soon as he sees me. Is he still to hot or is this something else?
He only gapes under the heat bulb, so he is definitely too warm. What I don't understand is why he doesn't move from that spot, directly under the heat lamp.
I'm not sure of his basking temperature. I had ruled out the possibility of him being too warm because he is usually dark brown and at the top of the enclosure. If he continues to gape, I'll get a lower wattage bulb. I'm using 75 watt now. That's probably too much, but he always looked so dark...
Recently I have noticed my chameleon gaping a lot. He just sits on his branch with his mouth wide open. There isn't any prey in sight or anything that might intimidate him. (Unless he finds a plant or a chair intimidating) Is this anything to be worried about, or am I just paranoid?
If he won't eat crickets, you can always try dubia roaches. Unlike crickets, they don't smell bad or make noise. You can buy a dubia colony on many different websites. However, you have to watch out, because too much exposure to their poop can make you develop an allergy.
Also, you need to...
I need to take my chameleon to the vet soon but the vet here doesn't take exotics. I live in Camden, Alabama. What chameleon vet is the nearest to me?
Thanks!
While we're on the subject of chameleon color, does a Jackson's chameleon ever turn bright colors or are they just green and brown? I've never seen a picture of one that was something like red or blue.
Thanks!
I was browsing Josh's Frogs' website and came across something called a color enhancer. I definitely wouldn't mind if my chameleon was a brighter color, but was worried it might be bad for him. The fact that I had never seen these anywhere else made me a little suspicious of them. Do they really...
The chameleon I got for Christmas has started shedding and I am not sure what that entails. Does he require any special treatment while he's shedding?
Thanks!
