    Wellness check

Happy birthday to your son! And thank you for all the great feeder breeding advice! I’m actually currently breeding dubias and I already think I have more than I can handle. They multiply fast. Now I’m working on breeding superworms. I let some of them turn into beetles so they can reproduce...

    Wellness check

Thank you! Will do! I’ll also take pics of supplements etc. I’m worried he might be getting a little chunky but it hasn’t become too noticeable so I assume it’s not a concern quite yet. I’ve been watching his casque and cheeks. He’s not a crazy eater like some chams are so it’s hard to believe...

    Wellness check

Thanks for your thoughts. You could totally be right. He is about due for a shed. I’m probably just being paranoid, but thought I’d get some reassurance from the forums to make sure nothing else seems the matter. I’ll def keep the appointment!

    Wellness check

Hey everyone! So I woke up this morning and Bazel was a little darker then usual and I just started to feel a little inkling that something was off. No unusual behavior. He’s still very alert and is drinking and eating as usual. I have a vet visit scheduled for March 30th. I wanted to upload...

Happy 2 year gotcha day Bazel!

I’ve officially had Bazel in my care for 2 years today! I love him more than life itself. I’m so fortunate to be able to care for such an exquisite creature. He’s one of the most loving and social chams I’ve ever met and I’m so impressed with how far he’s come. Enjoy this collage of some of my...

    Normalizing the winter slumps

I think I just figured out another reason for Bazel’s sudden depression. I looked over the other day and realized his favorite ladder in his cage had fallen. I put it back up and this morning he’s climbing along it all happy and bright. LOL what a diva

Help identifying age and sex veiled Cham

Here’s some info on females courtesy of @Beman Females As she matures you will have to start cutting back her food. By about 6-7 months she should be getting about 5-8 small feeders each day. At about 7-8 months you want to slowly reduce by cutting down feeder amounts so that she is on a...

    Normalizing the winter slumps

Glad to hear I’m not alone. Bazels doing the same. He pops his head out for some sunlight in the morning and drinks some water when the mister goes off and then hides away again. I’m thinking of maybe switching the basking bulb for a slightly higher wattage since the temps have dropped so much here.

    Normalizing the winter slumps

I snipped off the dead leaves, wiped down everything with organic terrarium cleaner, and cleaned out Bazels feeder. He better cheer up soon because his 2 year gotcha day is in 3 days!!

    Normalizing the winter slumps

Haha! Yes I should totally take this opportunity and clean up around Bazel’s cage.

    Normalizing the winter slumps

Yes it’s super scary at first! I guess chams have their bad days too.

    Normalizing the winter slumps

Yes for sure! He has a vet appointment coming up in a month or so. Always important to stay on top of things.

    Normalizing the winter slumps

We just had a big winter storm in NY and Bazel has retreated to the depths of his cage and gotten all dark and grumpy. This is not abnormal for him and he usually gets moody when the weather gets cold. I used to think when I first got him that he had gotten some parasite and was sick, but after...

    10 year-old buying chameleon

In terms of the vines, in addition to real plants, the cham is gonna need some horizontal branches throughout the cage, especially below the heat lamp to perch. You could search for some thick and sturdy branches from outside and cut them to the length you need. Then soak them in your bathtub to...

    Cant keep up humidity

Hiya! So veileds love to nibble on plants so the fake plants you have in your cage are actually an impaction risk which can be life threatening. If you change them out for real plants not only is it safer, but it will help you keep your humidity up. Are you running the humidifiers during the day?

Chameleon mad when heat lamp is turned on

Hiya! So based on this pic you’re gonna need WAY more coverage. Real plants only. If he has the option to go underneath leaves and thermoregulate he may tolerate the heat light better. He most likely feels exposed and can’t get much variation in temperatures because there’s no areas of shade or...

    Gasping at night

Your chameleon is still not well. Even if gasping has stopped, there is still an apparent mouth infection. A vet is most definitely needed. I hate to say this, as I know how difficult it can be, but if you are unable to take this sweet cham to a vet and get it the help it needs, I would...
