Lurking in this thread because I plan to replace the trips to the store for distilled with RODI water. Someone from Mistking told me via email that they're coming out with their own RO system, so look out!
I should also say, I'm in the market for an RODI unit that could be used for a reef tank...
Roaches are a more nutritious feeder than crickets, so they can be a staple if your cham likes them. Just be sure to still give the cham a variety of bugs and vary up the gutload of your feeders once in a while too!
Hey, just thought I’d check in with an update. We wound up taking Jasper to the vet yesterday because he had blood in his stool that morning.
While the fecal came back negative for parasites, he’s been put on a round of anti-biotics for a week to two weeks.
He did have a small amount of...
The Vit A has been going on for....I'd say almost a year? So I can back off on that as I think the misting is what really helped the eye. I'll order some silks. We do keep dubias, so I might just have to be more persistent with what I offer him and see how it goes. As I listed above, he went a...
Your Chameleon - Male ambilobe panther chameleon. 3 yrs 8 months old. Been in my care about 3.5 years or so.
Handling - Maybe once or twice a week. I put my hands in daily for a hand feed or to clean a poop and the occasional chin scratch.
Feeding - Feeding mainly superworms every three days...
Yeah I'd definitely go with a new bucket and bulkhead. I bought a stopper for the bulkhead and set it on the edge of a table with another bucket under to leak-test it full. After a night without a leak I deemed it safe for use.
I hate to ask, but why did you get a chameleon if you can't afford to get the proper lighting for it? Without UVB, its bones will become brittle and it'll get MBD before long.
Definitely distilled all the way. I see you're a boston person, and I'd recommend getting your distilled over at Stop and Shop, as it's usually cheapest there.
Few things...the eyes closing during the day is obviously a sign of something wrong, be it stress, dehydration or some other illness. Also, best way to tell a cham's hydration level is looking at their urate when they poop. If it's all white, then they should be well hydrated. If it's orange-ish...
I'd honestly say the biggest mistake was getting one from Petsmart. Unfortunately, stores like those don't have proper housing or food for their chams, and the Petco I get some worms from usually has chameleons in poor condition in there. I'd go with a reputable breeder next time so you know...
You should try to up your misting times. My panther was having a similar issue and when I upped my mister to go for 5 minutes 3x a day, he had longer to wash out his eyes and drink. It's improved his hydration and eye health overall.
I hope your misting setup has a big enough reservoir and...
