I've experienced one of my chams doing the screen thing so I added more horizontal pathways and he got off the screen. Couldn't hurt to add more vines.
How old and how big is his cage? If they're often on the screen it may mean he is trying to get out and that could be a number of reasons. Enclosure too small, not enough pathways to roam around, not enough hiding spots, poor UVB, not getting his vitamins. I can't see your pics while I'm at...
Day 2 Pics
Got him into his new enclosure and took a few shots right after I misted him down. They're quite bright so I'm thinking I may have to adjust my lighting.
I was doing a bit of browsing on Melleri Discovery and I stumbled upon a link to this section of the cham forums. As a new melleri keeper, I just wanted to say hi as I will probably be around these parts for a very very long time :D
Day 1 update. Moved him to his new home (click here) and he ate a cricket out of the feeder jug. That right there alleviates a lot of the concern I had about him cup feeding. Now that I know he will eat and drink, I can relax a little bit and hopefully he settles in to his new chameleon...
The whole thing is held together with zip ties.
And now the mostly finished product. Misting system and plant upgrades are in the works, but for now, the little melleri has a place to call home.
Here the best pic I can do to try to get the whole thing in the pic
A little bit closer...
So I'm working on my Melleri's cage made with PVC piping and 3/4 inch plastic netting. I've got the main part of the cage done and I'm off to Home Depot again to get more netting to finish the door. It measure about 7x3x3. Here's a pic of my progress. I will update with more as soon as I get...
I'm not concerned about hydration anyways since I got my Mist King going on him already. When he gets to move into his new big cage he'll get the rain dome action from Aquazamp. The cage is mostly built. I just need to add a bunch of zip ties to the netting and then I can put the plants and...
I have a temporary standard 4x4x2 but in the next few days I will be building an enclosure that is going to be about 7x3x3 (give or take as I do more measurements). It is a PVC and plastic mesh design that I have found on Melleri Discovery. I'm also going to get either the starter Mist King...
Took a road trip and stopped at LLL Reptile in Escondido to pick up a Melleri. It is my first WC chameleon. It looked pretty good to me except for his bent rostral, which I hear is just common for Melleri that are imported. I estimate it at about a foot long but I'm not 100% sure. I need to...
I give my chams a number of them once in a while. I may give them a few for a couple of days then for a few days after not feed any wax worms for a long while. They easily go back to other feeders. Perhaps its because I hand feed them the wax worms and another type in the same feeding.
It doesn't hurt. They can grip pretty hard but its like pin pricks. On a side note, if you give them plenty of support, they won't be inclined to grip as hard and dig their nails into you.
