i agree with kinyonga once the chameleon gets old enough and grows big enough it could end up eating the gecko. you would be surprised what chameleons will eat! today i saw a picture on the forum of a chameleon eating a hummingbird! you should check it out its pretty sweet haha go to the picture...
I wouldnt worry about your cham being ready for bed early, i have a 2 month old female veiled and she gets ready for bed pretty early and her lights shut off at 9:00, ive seen her chillin in her sleeping spot an hour or so before the lights out. And thats lucky that your cham seems to like...

I have a 2 month old female Veiled Chameleon and I handle her for a couple of minutes a day everyday and she is extremely tame and while i handle her she has never hissed at me or showed any signs of stress like changing to darker colors or opening her mouth. and she also will eat crickets out...

like burnedrose and many others said the cage should be aluminum screen, and with your new cham you should remove the substrate because the chameleon can ingest this and it can cause severe digestion problems and a possible trip to the vet for your cham. the foliage that you have in your cage...
