Is his eye still sucked in? If you could fill out this husbandry form with as much detail as possible, including any more pics you have of him and a pic of his entire cage, lights to bottom, we can help make sure his husbandry is in tip top shape!
Here is some recommended information to include...
The longer shedding could have to do with his care previous to you getting him. Where did you get him from?
Chameleons are dry shedders, so you just keep his husbandry the same as the rest of the time, super easy! You don’t want to ever bathe or shower a chameleon, that's old, inaccurate info...
Hi there, and welcome! Everyone’s given you great advice! I just want to add a few more things, if that’s alright:
-She needs an appropriate lay bin in her cage if you haven’t added one already (veileds can be sexually mature as little as 4 months old). @MissSkittles ‘ blog she linked above goes...
You can make or buy a feeder run if you want! It keeps the bugs contained so you can monitor how many he is eating, along with not having to worry about removing the loose uneaten crickets out of the cage after feeding, but it still has enough room for the bugs to move around to catch his eye...
Make sure you get a uvb fixture and bulb that is at least 2’ long. You can also use a 3’ set if you lay/hang it diagonally across the top of the cage. You can also get a 4’ fixture now instead if you plan on giving him an even bigger cage in the future (4’x2’x4’ tall or bigger is recommended for...
That’s amazing, and I’m sure a huge relief! They’ll definitely keep being spoiled I’m sure!
I really hope things with your brother improve, your family is my thoughts, and I’m sending y’all hope and support!
Awesome!
This is the heat probe I’m currently using: https://a.co/d/89qxfBk
The model of Solarmeter is very important, so I’d check which one you have. What’s recommended is the 6.5
No problem at all, that’s why we’re here! Thank you for taking our advice!
Yay!
There are never too many questions, we want to help you with anything/everything you need! With baby chameleons, you’ll order either hornworm eggs or freshly hatched hornworms online to get ones that are small enough to safely feed. They also have a strong grip, so only feed them in a smooth...
Cage Type - It is a ZooMed Reptibreeze Reptile cage, 2’2’4. That size is perfect! Once he’s bigger (or before then if you want), I’d look into cages (diy or commercially made) that are 4’x2’x4’ tall or bigger, as what you have is considered the bare minimum for an adult veiled. 4’x2’x4’ tall (or...
No problem at all, that’s why we have this community!
Welcome on here! I know this is a lot of info I’m about to throw at you, so ask any questions you need! There are no stupid questions, we’re here to help! My feedback will be in red, and I’ve attached helpful images and links below:
He is...
On it, could you do an age guess though? I’m no good with veiled ages
No problem, it’s great that you’re wanting to help! The more the merrier, and keep getting practice in, it’s the best way to learn (and you can always ask for help/assistance/guidance/etc)!
@ykspinz give me a few to go over...
Here’s two more links:
https://www.reptilebasics.com/reptile-uv-light-meters/solarmeter-6.5r-reptile-uvb-lamp-meter/ (get this if you can afford it! It’s literally a lifesaver and everyone should have one! This will tell you exactly where to place your basking branch from the uvb bulb- you want...
Awesome! Make sure to replace the Exo Terra vines, too. I can’t wait to see it fully done, great job so far! For cutting out the top, you can tape a trash bag inside the top of the cage to catch debris while cutting so hopefully nothing ends up in the enclosure
The urate comes out with the poop, so it should be near that. It might not be white, it could also be partially or fully yellow or orange. This is another reason quarantine cages are good. Could you take out the bioactive layers and save it to the side (that way it stays alive and keeps running)...
I have no idea if mild hand soap is okay, so hopefully someone else can chime in on that, but did you rinse the branches extremely well after the bath before you baked them?
I think he’s so dark because he needs more plant cover throughout the cage he can fully hide behind
Could you post a pic...
