This is from @Beman ... I use 60 watt regular incandescent bulbs and I have a full 10 inch drop to basking. This ensures that I do not have a thermal burn risk. If your using one of the focused heat basking bulbs they can be quite intense the closer you are to them.

I have one too! This is hank and he is super pretty mad lol... just be cautious because of their casque is slightly higher while basking .... I often catch mine with his mouth slightly open because he’s thermal regulating, and that’s at about 11 inches from his basking spot ...
