It's not about brightness, it's about the amount of the light spectrum that the bulb can replicate. I'm no expert, but some googling has shown that it takes LED lights to replicate the sun enough to allow a plant to grow healthily. Even then, theres certain spectrums and lumens that are better...
Definitely try some pinhead crickets to get him started, and if hes not in a super large enclosure, maybe try some wild feeding too. Either way, don't stress too much. If the animal is hungry enough, it will eat. I stressed myself crazy during the first week when I got my cham, I didn't see my...
I mean it's hard to tell from the photos, but if she is sleeping during the day and keeping her eyes closed that definitely isn't good. Her age has nothing to do with it, they should be awake and eating and basking during the day.
Also, I see that your in Florida and are using a glass...
Get a misting system regardless so you don't have this problem again. Food should be ok just leave a good amount of worms, he won't die if he doesn't eat for a couple days.
Awesome! If anything, it might almost be TOO much foliage in there, maybe trim the plants down just a little to provide more wiggle room and pathways for the cham to walk around in. Either way it looks great. Much better seeing this than the Petco enclosures where there's literally not a single...
IMHO i think that actually going in and removing any leftover crickets would only do more harm than good. The chance of a cricket biting your cham while they sleep and doing any harm is much lower than the amount of unnecessary stress you will cause by digging around in their enclosure every...
Run the mister for 120 seconds a couple of times of day and maybe 30-45 seconds another couple of times depending on the humidity and heat in your location. Also, just to be finicky, maybe add a little more foliage towards the top of the cage, like put a fake fine around the top with zip ties...
I would just get a different bulb to use. It's incredibly inexpensive so there's really no loss by just going out to the store and getting a halogen. Also, this is a bit more anecdotal but I believe the chameleons prefer it when there's more light in the cage. Iv'e experimented with different...
Her eye seems fine to me, if she's rubbing it on branches or keeping it closed then I would be concerned. As for the fungal or shed, the pics that you posted seem to show nothing out of the ordinary at all. I can't see anything that even looks like shedding... Maybe take some more pictures that...
No thats not enough! It needs to go on for much longer than 12 seconds. It takes a couple minutes for many chameleons to even recognize the water, move into position, start drinking, etc. My first mist of the day is about 6 minutes, 3 hours later i do 4 minutes, and 3 hours later I do another 5...
I told myself I wasn't going to get a Misting system because I have enough time to hand water. Yet after only 1 month of hand misting, I decided to suck it up and spend the $120 on a Mist King and now I would never go back. Having it set up automatic is not only easier to maintain, but its less...
As mentioned by others, my cham seems to have a favorite spot as well. While the cham makes it way around all parts of the enclosure, there is one stalk on the back side that it frequently sleeps on and is deemed to be its "safe place".
Can you guys help me ID my cham, I posted this in a large thread but it seemed to get glossed over. There's been a couple other people giving me mixed ID's. Some have said female, some have said male, so I'm hoping posting here can give me somewhat more of a definitive answer. The breeder said...
not sure theres any way to verify it when its that young. They don't show color characteristics until they are older. This is why it's important to buy from a reputable breeder.
