Unless your enclosure is bio active, you shouldn’t have any substrate. I don’t have a bio active enclosure myself but I’ll tag in someone who does and can give you more advice. @MissSkittles

Eye issues are most commonly caused by incorrect supplementing. You should be giving plain calcium with no d3 every day but twice a month do a multivitamin with vitamin d3 such as reptivite.
