All of our Jacksons will open their mouth at times. At first it kind of scared me, but none of them have ever acted sick. We have had them for over a year now and they are all eating, showering and quite active. Even the babies sit with an open mouth at times.
You can always put a little bit of soil on top of the container soil. Generally speaking there is a good chance that fertilizer has been added to any commercially available nursery stock. Our Jacksons seem intrigued by the soil, but I have never seen them eat it. The idea of inch to inch and a...
It is nearly impossible to over water a ficus. But the water has to stay fresh. I taught master gardeners for years, and have come to the conclusion that the easiest way to explain the water needs of most plants is this: a good number of plants can live in a river, but not too many can survive...
We also have dart frogs, which are flightless fruit fly eaters. You can get a starter fruit fly breeding kit from Josh's. pretty easy to do and you have a permanent supply. As far a the ones that fly around, spray the cage down and when they get wet they have a hard time flying. Our baby...
It is natural for humidity to rise when temperatures drop at night. That is how morning dew is formed. How high is the night humidity? Are you seeing mold form? An increased air flow was suggested and that may help. They sell dehumidifiers if it is really a big problem.
If the eggs are good the swings in temperature should not hurt them, if they were laid recently. It is after the first few weeks that it is important to keep them a fairly constant temperature. We had Panther eggs mailed to us, when they arrived the temperature in the container had dropped to...
Looks like a male to me. I won't say that I am an expert, but we have raised a few Panthers from eggs & were able to sex them correctly.
The tail gets thinner on females. In your picture the tail looks like is about the same thickness. Wish I could come up with a better way of wording that...
We use 50Watt bulbs for the Jacksons & hang them about 3 inches above the cage, but they don't have a large window. They are not big on basking. How far from the cage is the light you are using? Jacksons really can suffer if temperatures are to high. They need a 5.0UVB more than a basking light...
I can't say I remember where, but I read that there is no use in giving chameleons names. They ever will come when they are called. But we named all of ours. Good luck with your new chameleon.
Good job, I am sure that you will get some helpful suggestions from the forum, but being able to see an animal in person is so much more helpful to a diagnoses. I does sound promising that the vet is interested in the enclosure. Usually they want see the poop. Again, good luck, I know I would...
