I have all three now LLL, Reptibreeze and DIY cages. Each one has positives and negatives but I can't push one more than the other. I thought about doing a detail comparison of all three, just have not had time. Overall they are all great.

Actually by definition a maggot is from the fly family, something may look like a maggot but if it is not a fly then it is not a maggot. But yes Dermestid larvae which become dermestid beetles are what you find it cricket colonies to keep the dead crickets cleaned up.
You might want to supply them with water crystals for hydration, they may not be getting enough from the fruits and vegetables. Maggots are fly larvae, does your container have an open top where flys can get to it, if not then the maggots had to have been laid at the place you bought them from...
Some types of trees you might want to strip the bark off the limbs, I got some manzanita branches and after they got wet for a few days the bark begin to peel off everywhere so I had to remove it. No doubt when they shed they would have rubbed their eye in it.
That's a great idea I had no idea you could do that. I am growing out tons of eggs all of the time and I was worried what I was going to do when the trees start dropping their leaves. I assume they will last months frozen like that.
