I don't want to be rude but in my experience pet store employees often have false information. I would trust the people on this forum far more than a pet store.

My guess here is that the heat gun is correct. How does the heat feel though? It should be quite warm on your hand but really not hot. If the highest thermometer is correct I think you'll be able to tell.

The probe can take ten or so minutes to adjust to temps as well. I've heard the heat guns aren't the most accurate but I do not know that for a fact as I've never used one.

I know you said you don't know the age. But babies and adults have different temp needs. Can you give your best guess or post pictures with something for size comparison?

Also a space heater with a thermostat that kicks off when it gets too cold is nice. Then it won't run all the time.

You can get a ceramic heat bulb which puts off no light if you're worried. My house gets down to around 17 but I have a young adult veiled so I'm not sure what's alright for a baby panther.

I HATE bugs. I have made it about a year with out touching one! For the crickets I use tubes from the cricket keepers but I use a 10 gallon tank now. I use tweezers for everything else.

I'm not sure with Jackson's but dark and dull colors can be a sign of stress. Also I've read that some chameleons stay more dull in their 'teenage' years.
