Swollen eyelid associated with foleyella sp infection in a chameleon…

I'm so used to GI parasites that I never consider the more surface level ones like that. New thing to be conscious about. I know it was a long time ago, but it's still sad to have lost a pet in that way.

Veiled cham has his mouth open

The way twirly eats in the first video the first couple times is so dramatic

Swollen eyelid associated with foleyella sp infection in a chameleon…

That is awful. It's such a thing I would never imagine, so I can see why the vet would be stubborn, however, I wish they'd allow themselves to be more experimental to suggestions like yours. What made you suspect worms in its eye to begin with? Did you see the squirming? Was it w/c?

Veiled cham has his mouth open

I watched a ton of cham videos before getting one myself, so I was familiarized with how actually kind of grotesque (but really cool) their tongues could be. Still, I have seen some with super duper pleasantly pink tongues. But, I guess it's okay if the reality is that the chest burster from...

Swollen eyelid associated with foleyella sp infection in a chameleon…

Oh no, the mental image of seeing the worm squirming against the eyelid 😱

Looking to upgrade my dome fixture

Ambient temps surrounding the basking area tend to call for lower temps, so I wonder if maybe the more focused dome and the designated basking branch is selected for this reason? Temperature gradients (higher is hotter and lower is cooler) is also a factor. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can...

Bump in the Corner of Young Chameleon's Eye

It's befuddling. I've been digging back through ages old threads of similar afflictions and the authors usually sort of vanish completely without a conclusion, so I'm not sure if I'm on the right track 🤔 Here's hoping, whatever he's put through next, makes him work harder at keeping the eye...

Looking to upgrade my dome fixture

I typically see domes like that first fixture atop enclosures. I never considered how much shape might play into the decision making, but I'm leaning towards one. If I recall, these fixtures don't have an actual on/off switch, so that's something to think about. Not really the end of the world...

Bump in the Corner of Young Chameleon's Eye

I found this video today, and I think this very likely has to be the answer to Spooble's troubles. I can't quite articulate it, but, when he looks off to the side, it's like more of a mass of sorts gets revealed that is tucked away in the corner usually. When they did the flush initially...

    Whats ailing Leon

Not to derail the topic too much, but I get oh-so sad when I see those little plastic container breeder shelf collections... I hope Leon feels better. I don't have any insight myself here, you're in good hands with skittles and beman.

    Whats ailing Leon

The aggression on the internet within the pet hobby is very disheartening. People often go into extreme guilt trip mode because it gives them something of a power rush. I like it here because you can feel a more general human compassion vs when I was on the cham subreddit where I was constantly...

    Whats ailing Leon

Those people want you to pay Big Branch for marked up prices clearly 😅 Outdoor branches are free, and it's a lot of fun to find cool sticks. Just be sure to give them a good soapy wash and let them dry out before usage.

Veiled cham has his mouth open

It's not a very clear photo as it's from a video of him eating, but I'm wondering if the long part of the tongue is just often very dark. I'd imagine maybe the biggest concern is the more blobby round part at the end being noticeably discolored. Their tongues don't look like a bright happy pink...

Bump in the Corner of Young Chameleon's Eye

Wow, that's a good idea. I don't think I could ever make it to this place as it's a 7-9 hours drive one way but I'll definitely drop her name and contact info + pics of Spooble's eye at my next visit and discuss the possibility of consulting with her. That's super cool, though, I had no idea...

Veiled cham has his mouth open

It's like this pale, dusty, dull gray, sort-of pink color. 👅

Veiled cham has his mouth open

It's worth noting that the youngins can sort of just enjoy screen climbing in general as well. It's their way of exploring the entire premises. My baby, for a while, was eager to go up high and end up upside down, and now does it...Very rarely!

Bump in the Corner of Young Chameleon's Eye

This is true! I'm not sure how that'd work. Should I recommend any names in particular? Or just mention the idea and see what she comes up with?

Veiled cham has his mouth open

I used the method in the video @kinyonga shared, and it's super simple and effective. Old photo, but you can also get a little cute with it, depending on what sort of plastic containers you have laying around. Temperature probes will end up giving you a more accurate reading than a temp gun. I...

Bump in the Corner of Young Chameleon's Eye

Honestly, I didn't even consider that I'd potentially be hooked up with another vet when setting up the appointment. From here on, I'll be careful to ask for my previous vet by name. With exotics, it is a mixed bag. I felt comfortable enough with my regular vet because she was checking out...

Bump in the Corner of Young Chameleon's Eye

I got a call in and I'm a bit at a loss. The vet is confident in the drops and told me that they don't really make oral antibiotics for chameleons, but I know that's not true...But I also felt too sheepish to argue my case against a professional. They aren't the previous vet who I saw the last...
