For my meller...I run my humidifier 24/7, most large amounts twice a day, then I have a Habba most squirting water every hour, and I put my Cham in a steam shower multiple times a weak, and he still barely gets the water he needs, for each Cham it's different... Mellers are particularly needy in...
I don't have a cage I free range my chams do they need the extra humidity since that's what keeps any moisture in the air around them, and they come and go from it when u please
Yes it is a struggle to keep I clean but there are many units u can buy with 2 sources of filtration for your water...
Awesome.... I'm assuming we won't get any weirdos because u have to be doing pretty well financially and mentally to provide for u n ur Cham in one of the most expensive places in the world to live.
Anyone have a big place?
I've got a good sized one bedroom Aptmnt on the upper east but the...
Anyone interested in the Manhattan / Brooklyn / Tri-State area in having a lil cham keepers group. The SBCK club seems freaking awesome, and those people have every advantage in the world to keep their chameleons, I'd love to see and hear about people making cham life work in the busy NYC area...
Im so freaking jealous of this, i'd love to have one in NYC and see what all the new york apartment dwellers do for their chams... I think it'd be cool to do a tour of everyones setups.
Melleri are such particular chams.... mine is incredibly ornary
Ive had him for about 3 months now and he is a year old, and still very cautious of me and everything else....
My panther is a lil food slut, and will take anything.. my meller is still very cautious of hand feeding and is...
Interesting, my meller is also about a year and eating once every 3 days or more, just how he rolls i guess, he has every kind of feeder available...
One thing to check is your ambient and basking temps, generally they will have a healthy appetite if you are keeping them warm enough
My cham loves it, and each cham is different, I built a highway for them to explore around the room, that way they don't go wandering elsewhere.....
to be honest.. most of the time a chameleon will only leave a FR home if they are not being given something they need... food / water / light...
absolutely, there are other forum members who have, instead of having it open like me its super easy to throw up mesh to block it, or plexi and mesh.... up to you really, super fng easy tho,
Well.... it's frusterating for me when I discuss free ranging that these responses come up, because it is straight up common sense that it's a bad idea to free range if any of these concerns are issues for you. It's pretty obvious that if you have dogs running all over shredding things and...
I feel you that makes sense, i'm not judging i wasn't shaming anyone.... just saying i think its part of the progression of this hobby to consider it at least...
Looks great.....
but if it ain't free range... it ain't workin for me....
I think my whole obsession with chams is that there is always a way to make them happier, you can give them more plants, more diverse food selection and variety, better habitat and realism to make it as jungle like...
I wanna breed my MELLERI, he's beautiful and I would go bananners if he actually found a suitable mate and made it happen.
I would quit my job and just watch the babies.... lol
Here is my reccomendation since I had similar issues
- let your chameleon get acclimated to her new home for a few weeks leave her be,
Then start handling every day, chameleons are creatures of habit, if they recognize u as not a threat they will accept handling, mine fan from me now it...
Great idea flux.. I actually had two and sold my friend one so I guess i'll bring the other back ;)
Carlton always appreciate the words of wisdom....
Definitely will give it a try.
These creatures are very hard to sex even when they are older....
I think I have a male but I honestly don't know, should I have a vet determine the sex for me, is that possible / will they know for sure?
*What i'm getting at is that I would love to breed my meller, but if no one knows...
So after a few days of scarce to none eating, last night I offered a dubia on my hand, and he wasn't feelin it, so i put it on the beam on his highway and he gobbled it down.
I also moved his feeder bucket to make it blend in with the trees and put it higher up, so it looks like the insects...
