I am going to agree with the college student budget- I do not have $200 extra upfront, but I can slowly piece together a misting system for him for cheaper.
I looked at that basking lizard website and their starter kit interests me as well as their timer....anyone have any input on it?
In the shower I pick how long he stays in, we can not run the shower for 1 hour- that is a waste of good drinking water plus the bills for it. As for a drinking response- I honestly do not think my cham will do it. I mist him for roughly 2-8 min a couple times a day in addition to a constant...
add to your list any non poisionous insect you find. I have heard to stay away from beetles, esp lady bugs and japanese beetles, but I will throw in a spider or anything else I catch in the horse pastures (pesicide free zone of course)
definately variety- he may not like it at first (mine didn't) but they start eating it, especially if that is all you offer him for a day or two. Now he chomps down everything. Mealworms are harder to digest and you do not want them for a main diet. I have heard crickets and roaches are the best...
Thats, this is the kind of stuff I am looking for. While I want my cham to be happy, I can not afford a $200 misting system. Once a day pumping is no problem, I already spend 20 min each morning feeding him, his food, and my snake and turtles
Hand feeding almost always has to be some type of worm (wax, meal, silk) but not crickets. Good luck on hand feeding. My cham will never do it. I have tried, but given up- he still lets me hold him, so I am not too worried, but he won't. He actually will not eat unless the crickets got around...
I don't know about the drinking response- I have only seen him drink once and that is when my roommates were supposed to take care of him and he wasn't misted for a whole day ( I have a continuous drip). Other than that, he does not seem to drink at all.
I actually just use a dead hibiscus (not enough sunlight for it) and leave him in there for roughly 3-5 min (want to conserve water), but I forgot about him once and he was still there soaking it up 10 min later.
As for tap water- I use it up here at school because we have a great water...
I just introduced Herb (male veiled cham 11 months) to the shower and he loves it. I just want to recommend this to other people, because it drastically changed his personality. All I do is set him on a plant and turn the shower on warm to hot water. He just sits there soaking it up or tries to...
I have seen it at least 4 times. He does it with the fake plastic vines as well but doesn't do it, from what I saw, on unmovable objects...but after some thought, it could be an adaptation b/c of his back legs. I believe he wasn't supplemented before I got him- I thought the shaking was normal...
How do the other plants hold up with the fake lighting? Natural sunlight is not an option here in the winter and my hibiscus and ficus (large tree, dont know what species) both died. The Pothos is doing well though under the fake lighting....any one know of any that don't need as much sunlight...
Update: Herb is doing fine- still on the scrawny side, but he wasn't eating much for that month when he was younger. Still won't let me touch him most of the time, but every once and a while he is ok. He also loves the new cage- roams around it constantly knocking things over looking for...
Yup I understand- I have an 8 month-yr old veiled- Herb. He definately has a pissy attitude. He loves getting out but only on certain occasions...I have narrowed it down to the color of my shirt, if I just took a shower (bad thing) and how many people are around. He will hiss at anyone else that...
I use pothos and they are the only ones I keep alive under the fake light. The hibiscus and ficus died. They work great in the summer or if you are outside, but it being winter here in Wisconsin, it is out of the question. Right now my enclousure includes a 2 1/2 foot high dead hibiscus and a...
I bought 250 eggs from California Silkworms.com and they have instructions on their site....anyways....after about 2-3 months I ended up with 15 worms (catepillars?) large enough to feed. I tried ordering adults as well, but most of them end up dying right away I believe from the transport...
hmmm I might keep him in the smaller cage then. He doesn't look stressed in it or anything. I will be gone for 5 weeks to Europe soon and my younger sisters (soph in HS) are taking care of him as well as my other pets. He moves around a bunch but it is more back and forth on this one vine, he...
