For hanging plants I use 50 lb test line and attach it horizontally near the top of the cage. Sags a bit when u hang a plant from it, but it gets the job done. You could also use ties/line to attach a dowel in the same spot.
Can't find golden leaf schefflera on any safe plant list for chameleons. If you can't get arboricola, golden pothos or ficus benjamina would be good alts. One large golden pothos can grow in quickly to fill a 24x24x48" cage if hung.
My chams never seem to mind the dog or cat, I think it's because the chams are so elevated they feel a sense of security in that. They're much more defensive when I approach, all 200+ 6'4" of me.
I'm going to Orlando for a couple days this weekend and I'm having a friend who keeps Panther chameleons (not a forum member) with a key so he can stop by and fill the drippers/feed some crickets.
I really wanted to add some different fake plants throughout the house...it's just not practical for me with a house cat. Even when I free range him inside my room I have to lock doors or my cat will paw it open. He's very aware of the chameleons, and I do everything I can to keep him away from...
I agree with this, but for a different reason. One time my veiled hit the crickets perfectly and got 2 large crickets with one shot. Don't want him grabbing more than what he can chew. Other solution would be to use a bowl/something with a larger bottom surface. Remember even when you cup feed...
I'll be converting my indoor steamroom into a Melleri free range shortly. Great since it has built in drainage. Not sure if I could use the steam unit for the chameleons...unless I hooked up some kind of filter to it somehow. Need to do more research on my specific steam model.
Sorry about your pal George. They have such short lifespans. 7 years is great.
Wow, that's really unusual to me that your cham and cat got along. If I let my cat that close to my cham he would strike it, no question in my mind. He definetly sees the cham as potential prey.
R/n Florida is waaay too hot, so I keep them indoors. I used to take my Veiled out daily but he hates being handled and it seemd to be more stressful than beneficial for him, so my chameleons rarely get natural sunlight.
What supplement schedule is recommended for fischer's/montane species? I've been dusting with calcium w/o d3 every other day, and planned to use herpavite twice a month and calcium with d3 twice a month.
He's not supposed to be there lol. I left his enclosure open the other day and he decided to climb up that wire and onto the light fixture, instead of onto his free range ficus like he usually does. I baited him down off the light with a cricket a couple seconds after taking the pics, in fact...
My Fischer's is still very shy, especially when it comes to eating. I'm worried that perhaps he's not eating enough, but hopefully he's still settling in and this will improve. He'll eat at most 2 crickets a day. My chams are in my room so when I'm in there cleaning or doing activities which...
