Hey there, That is definitely a female. She has the same coloration as one of my females, along with the same circular banding on her body... I would not call them bars at all...Anyhow, when I saw your pic, it immediately reminded me of her, as far as color goes.

My little guy Solar is 5 months old, and he has just recently started showing a little color. He has shed once since in my care, and since then I have nticed a difference, but he hasn't started showing any reds or blues yet... He is 5 months, 1 weeks in that photo, and I expect to start...

1/4 inch should be plenty small enough... I would give the silkworms a try. They have to be alive. Chams won't eat a dead worm anyhow. Don't put the silkies in the cup...continue putting the crix in there...just stick the silks on a branch, they will stay there. I'm going through the same thing...
