I'm going with the breeder for a few reasons:
My climate is incredibly dry, and I worry about losing humidity.
I'll be sitting mine in a recessed area meant for a hutch, so I dont need visibility on the sides.
I plan on using "great stuff" foam on the sides and back in conjunction with live...
I've used drylok for a few wooden enclosures for mangrove species of monitors in the past with no issues, and I know it's almost the standard for tegu keepers who go the DIY route.
"air out" time is definitely crucial, though.
Even if there was no change when you put him in the screen cage, I'd still move him there permanently.
Long term in your climate keeping him in glass just seems like a gamble.
Does he have a basking spot with higher temps? Low temps will drastically slow down metabolism which will in turn curb...
The problem with feeding prey items that are wild caught is that you have no idea what parasites and pesticides/poisons they've been exposed to.
It's a gamble.
I know they're a non native species but I just can't get behind pulling an animal out of the wild and sticking it in a cage when this species is so readily available for so little.
Not what you're asking, but I'm throwing it out there just the same.
Wasn't trying to pry, just always a bit overly excited to know someone with similar interests is in this area of California, rural as it is.

Not...
Probably my favorite species. Very handsome boy.
I'm curious, how does one take a chameleons blood pressure? Also, what lead you to believe it may be a problem? Guess I'm asking about signs and symptoms.
To be clear, I'm not trying to come off as critical at all. I'm a nurse by profession, and...
I know we're talking chameleons here, but I have to disagree with this generalization.
As someone who has kept numerous varanids and larger reptiles, I have experience first hand many a lizard that not only displays a thought process and rationalization to numerous situations, but...
