New Species - Nadzikambia baylissi

About a year and a half ago there was a lot of publicity about an expedition that went to Mount Mabu in remote Mozambique. During this expedition, they discovered a couple chameleons that were thought to be new species. We mentioned these expeditions a couple times here on the forum:

At the time, I suspected one of the two may be a new species of Nadzikambia, a genus with only one known species, Nadzikambia mlanjensis, the Mount Mulaje Chameleon. Well, the first of these two new chameleon species has now been described by Bill Branch and Krystal Tolley in the African Journal of Herpetology as Nadzikambia baylissi, the Mount Mabu Chameleon. There are a number chameleon species described every year and many awaiting description. In 2009 and 2010 alone, Bradypodion ngomeense, Calumma tarzan, Furcifer timoni, Kinyongia asheorum, Kinyongia magomberae, Kinyongia vanheygeni, Trioceros hanangensis and now Nadzikambia baylissi, have been described.

Cool article. Sounds like there are quite a few recently discovered species in that region. A new forest viper?! I didn't even know there were previous ones.

It really highlights an importance for conservation so we as humans can keep satisfying our urges to explore, it's just a shame most of the habitats on earth allowing such wonders of nature are diminishing.
