Looking for an advanced smoke detector or other safety precaution

Certainly never a joke! I know that the risk of fires with any type of lamp is all too real...we had a house burn down nearby us from electrical fire. I think this has shaken up myself and my parents more than anything. My wants have been rejected, another chameleon is not in the cards right...

Looking for an advanced smoke detector or other safety precaution

Hi Carlton, thanks for your reply. I myself don't see the single cham cage and lighting fixtures as a fire hazard, but the home owners do. I have the basking light dome set up in such a way that it's clamped up off any surface and the cord is trailed away, again not interfering with anything...

Looking for an advanced smoke detector or other safety precaution

So far I've researched that: NEST has been pulled off the market for a flaw that they're working on. https://nest.com/smoke-co-alarm/life-with-nest-protect/ Birdi is a "smart" smoke detector in the works, but has not launched the product or the app that goes with it...

Looking for an advanced smoke detector or other safety precaution

I had planned to get an Ambilobe panther cham from Kammerflage for my 21st birthday, but the 'rents are not having it due to the fire hazard of the basking bulb/fixture. I have read through this thread: https://www.chameleonforums.com/electrical-safety-fire-risk-120279/index3.html But the...

    Digital Thermometer Talk

I appreciate your comments, truly! Walking myself through a detailed answer is the best way to go to get me to better understand the subject, so I thank you for it! :p Anyway, I'll be writing up my methodology properly tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll be thinking more about how I'm really going to start...

    Digital Thermometer Talk

Thanks so much for your comment! I was FINALLY able to get ahold of one of the manufacturer customer assistants that was able to provide me with some answers about how one of them works! Tomorrow, I am going to try the second company...wish me luck! Hopefully they turn out to be the same.

    Digital Thermometer Talk

The longer the better to reach that point, so I will extend it out. Thank you. I have been trying to find more information on these models, but it appears to be rather scarce. The Zilla thermometer was clearanced, so I worry I won't be able to find another one in stores to check out the...

    Digital Thermometer Talk

Noting my first post, there is really no way for me to know the true temperature at the place in time at any moment. Much like how, if you have two technicians measuring the same thing, who is to say that either of them are right? This is why I am comparing them to each other. My original...

    Digital Thermometer Talk

Thank you for your input!! It is highly valued. They are both black. Seemingly the same type of plastic coating. Their function shouldn't differ, so I figure their calibration and the way they work doesn't differ either - but this is something I may find out! As far as the amount of time goes...

    Digital Thermometer Talk

Thanks so much for the link there, I'm going to read up on this product. I can't wait to see what comes out of this study. I want to try different combinations of bulbs, distances, and domes to see what type of readings I can get. I have a few domes and many incandescent bulbs to measure the...

    Digital Thermometer Talk

Hey all, For my Six Sigma & Statistical Process Improvement course at Uni I'll be conducting a study based on the performance of two brands of digital thermometers relative to each other. I am interested in this topic because I purchased a Zilla digital thermometer for about $6-$7 on...

Can a panther showing a different color be a sign of illness?

In my confusion, I pointed out the mouth rot and dehydration...and also added that the new orange color he is showing is not a sign of illness (I was fairly certain at this point, but I decided to ask the forums in case I was wrong). They said, "In this case it was a huge indicator of his...

Can a panther showing a different color be a sign of illness?

My guesses are "no," but I saw a post from a veterinarian office of a panther chameleon that obviously had bad mouth rot and was very dehydrated. It was a patient of theirs. The caption of the photo said that the panther showing this new orange color was a sign that he was sick and that he...

My new baby Veiled Chameleon won't eat!

Hello and welcome to the forums! You will find endless useful information on this site. As said before, it is usual for a chameleon to refuse food as it is taking time to settle into a new environment. That can be pretty stressful. Here is the forum's care sheet for veiled chameleons...
