Thanks, I’ve been stumped on this for a minute since this is my first ever build!
Would acrylic be more susceptible to scratches and unsightly damage, etc. than glass? I definitely want it to stay clear and clean with easier upkeep if possible. I was thinking glass is probably better for that...
Thank you so much! It was so much work but it’s so worth it. Now my poor veiled is looking all frumpy in his old/current setup so I’m sure I’ll be building another soon.
Time for another update!
I installed the MistKing system with nozzles at the corners and center (total of 6). This is giving it a nice even coverage of mist/rain throughout the enclosure. I was considering adding another in the center but I don’t think it needs it as of now.
I added some more...
Thank you so much! I’m reworking it a bit but the goal is to make the ultimate comfort home for him! I appreciate all the kindness and support from everyone here 🥹
I’ve got the solarmeter so I will definitely adjust based on the readings once all the lights arrive. I shouldn’t put any branches higher in order to avoid burns, right? This guy is my first chameleon of the crew and he had a back burn early on. :(
I moved the lower branch down a little more for balance. Does that open space on the right look too open? Should I add a taller plant there, maybe a mid-large monstera? I know they like feeling higher up so I’m wondering if it’s better to leave the space empty so he has an area for that. 👀
I think I’m satisfied! Now it’s just installing the mistking and putting up some barrina lights until my fluval aquasky bar comes. I’m going to try to rig a rain pipe/hose to simulate storms every now and then since that light has a feature for it. :)
The bioactive ABG/fish soil blend is in as well as some isopods and springtails to seed. The clean-up crew seems super happy so far!
I’m planning on adding another branch cluster infront of the ficus to give him more access to the space. Can’t wait to see this thing grow :)
I foamed in 3 floating plant pots with drainage holes and used more moss to hide them. I like the black of the background so I went more minimal on the coconut peat. I will be adding fallen logs etc. and lots of plants to hide the lower background area so I think I’m at a good place here to let...
I’ll try to find some giant canyons and use those with my dairy cows and a few powders to start. We have a bunch of cultures going so if all else I can just throw in some every other month to make sure things are going well!
Thanks everyone for the advice!
Does anyone have any recommendations for isopod species for something this size? My partner started keeping multiple colonies, so there’s a lot to choose from:
• dairy cow
• powder orange
• powder blue
• wild type
• Ukraine pied
• rubber ducky
• cappuccino
• jupiter
• scaber dalmation
• jumbo...
Yes, I have a few of them! I have a ficus tree I purchased to go inside of the enclosure so I’m just trying to figure out how to balance that as well. My panther really loves his ficuses. Once that’s in I will do some additional branches to make sure he has options for gradient/exploration!
I underestimated the amount of silicone lol! Hoping to be close to done by the end of the week!
Here’s a peek with some live sheet moss and baked coco peat/fiber! Plus a bonus pug :)
