    it's hot, hot, hot

I bought a cool-mist humidifier to help keep up humidity in the dry winter months. My vet recommended the cool-mist type as opposed to warm-mist since the warm water tends to harbor bacteria (need to avoid resp. infections!!). they have them at target, and the vick's brand works pretty well (if...

    Ant problem

So these little tiny ants have decided to invade the potted plant I had in my 5 mo. old panther's cage. Needless to say, I removed the plant. However, they still are trailing around. I want to get rid of them, I WILL NOT USE PESTICIDES because they are crawling around his cage. I heard cinnamon...

    Mystery Affliction

So Cassius hasn't been feeling well. He has been pretty lethargic, lost interest in food, and closing his left eye more than normal. I visited an exotic vet a week and a half ago, and she started him on antibiotics (Fortaz) injections and assist feeding with a liquid solution (carnivore care)...

    Mist system

I'm looking for a pre-made mist system that will work in my veiled chameleon's cage. I don't need anything that is huge. Also, any recommended retailers would be awesome [other than mist king]. Thanks!

other than chams, what other reptiles are you guys into???

I have a ball python and my veiled. Working on my list of potential pets (after college... can't take them with me if i get them now!!!) so far I'm looking at a green tree python, a panther cham, and maybe one (or a few) leafy-tailed geckos.

Yay! First time feeding from hand.

Cassius is strong enough to grab from my hand. I've tried letting go, but I seem to time it wrong so sometimes I drop the cricket and he misses, which makes me feel bad. But if you are really good at reading the striking time, go for it.

need advice on keeping veiled healthy

Instead of the waterfall you can make a dripper for when you aren't misting. I have a pretty ghetto one lol, it is a tiny tube (like the skinny ones found in perfume bottles) poked through a chip dip container [all thoroughly cleaned of course], and I fill it up maybe twice a day. I have a large...

    Hornworms?

So tomatoes are bad for chams to eat- does that mean the fruit, the leaves, or both? I assume tomato hornworms are off limits, but i'm confused as to which hornworms y'all buy and feed to your chams? Tobacco hornworms?

    Too much food!

Well I am considering adding some variety to cassius' diet (only crickets and some carrot shavings), but he is not very big, and I don't know where I could get just a few superworms or roaches? I know my petsmart sells the superworms in a 25 count and I believe that is the smallest amount (I...

    Cassius!

I understand the risks now, and since I know the side effects I can tell what to watch out for. He isn't exhibiting any of the symptoms yet, and as far as I can tell, the porcelain lamp will decrease the chance greatly. I'm going to go with the compact and if i see any difference at all, I'll...

    Cassius!

I think before I try that I will try using the porcelain dome- it cuts the output by like 1/5 (I edited my earlier post with the other info)

    Cassius!

Ok I just checked and found a Repti Glo 5.0 tube I had as a backup for my ball python. I can install this one- it has lower ratings than the compacts for visual output. I realize it may not be the very best, but it is better. According to the research, If I switch to a porcelain dome, the bulb...

    Cassius!

I understand changing the red light, I have to lower the lamp though because I tested it with a "neodymium basking spot lamp" and it is not close enough to heat it above 80 or so. is there a problem with the uvb light?
