If Lubbers are poisonous, why are they in the Menu?

Lubbers are toxic no matter what you feed them. They are in a completely different family (Romaleidae) from what we consider typical grasshoppers (Acrididae). They have advanced toxin sequestration mechanisms that can mix and match compounds from non-toxic plants to create noxious chemicals...

    praying mantis?

I do have some giant asian mantis (Hierodula membranacea) adult pairs, if you want to make your own ooths. They lay huge ooths that take about 40 days to hatch, no cooling required. Just need once/week misting. I've never counted the babies, but it appears to be around 100/ooth and they lay 4 or...

I'm working on a few species with much less tibia barb since ideally you want to be eating the whole grasshopper. Up to 7 species available by this summer, as all the new stuff begins to hatch. Exciting times :)

    Need grasshoppers

    Dusting Grasshopper Greens

I make my own dry grasshopper food because none of the commercially available ones have the correct ingredients for grasshoppers. Keep in mind, it is a dry diet, so they will need a lot of hydration when using this, so pair it with some type of lettuce. You can either dust the lettuce or feed in...
