Try all different sized crickets. It takes patience for sure. Had mine a few months, some days he doesn't seem so interested in food.
Now he won't eat juveniles, even though I think adults are still a bit big, he chomps em down, and that's all he wants are the big boys. :o
Meal worms seem to...
They don't use PVC piping in the UK? I believe that's what most of his cages are constructed of. Try a plumbing wholesale house or the UK equivalent of home depot. (any home improvement store)
Awesome pics!
You also answered a question for me. I've had my xanth 3 days. I was letting him eat crickets straight from the cricket bin off a branch I was holding, and his throat started turning a bright teal/blue. I thought maybe it showed happiness.:D
Thanks for sharing.
Take the plant out of the potter.
Fill a large container (a storage tub/bin , garbage can, 5 gallon bucket etc.
Fill it with dish soap and warm water. Dunk it, roots and all, scrounge around the leaves really good, then rinse with a hose do this a few times. Wash away some of the outside dirt...
That was a tough read!:(
I like to think I gave my pets the best home possible, and think of how much different or short and sad that life could have been! I mean think of his send off, just goes to show, he had a good life!
Sorry for your loss, I'm sure your next buddy will find YOU soon.:o
Here's a picture of him sleeping on his sleeping branch.
I got lucky I think, hes a heavy sleeper.... I can be doing something with his free range, making it jiggle and he must just think its a breeze. :p
I have some pics of the ones I boiled last night for my own guy, gives ya a better idea.
The bigger diameter one, (but shorter) I pulled most the bark off.
More pics next post.
He is a 5 month old jacksonii xantholophus from Flchams.
Today he has been way more active, also not turning very dark anymore around me.
He had a hard time with his cup, I probably shouldn't have tried glass, but a beer pong cup felt to big.
I saw him staring at them in the baby jar...
Indeed, Id be willing to trade a good amount of vine for some good cricket gut-load for my 5month old jackson's if anyone would like.
I just got done boiling a batch to give my little buddy more vines, although if I send to anyone, I don't want to be liable or blamed for anything, so Id...
The pics are from within 30 mins after he arrived, he has been turning more green, I've been trying to stay away as much as possible.
I'll try and get more pics soon.
Thanks all for the kind words.
This morning when lights came on, I tried feeding with hemostats, he seemed interested, but no go.
So I hung a feeder cup, and he started munching away.:D:D
Hes got a cool personality... already seeing it after just a day.
I'm new to chams, but mine seems to like it as well.
I was looking up more info on bio vine and see that it doesn't come in very thick diameters? Also read it gets a bit rubbery/flexible when wet?
I don't think any of those would be concerns with the wild grape vine.
Ah the joys of living in the country... am I right?:)
Word of caution, if you get some, watch out for poison ivy, as it grows in the same places.
The small vines are usually (unless they are tangled good) not bad to get down, bigger vines can be near impossible unless using a ladder!
You...
