As far as sexing bugs go, I don't know as much as I'm sure many people on here do, but I can tell you that for crickets, the males only have two antenna things on the end of their abdomen, while females have three; the third one being a tube like antenna at the end of their abdomen in the middle...

Oh my gosh, that poor thing. I just wanted to wish you best of luck and hopefully he will be ok. It does look his basking bulb was probably too close to the cage and it burned the top of his casque. (That's just what it looks like to me.)
