These can also be colors indicating that she is gravid; you should probably get together supplies to be prepared for if she needs to lay eggs! Searching around on the forums for gravid/ egg bearing females should yeild some results! Good luck!
While the disagreements continue, you may want to contemplate setting up a box with something for your chameleon to lay eggs in.. You can do a search on the forum for more information as to what kind of box, and what kind of material, etc. It sounds as though your chameleon may be getting ready...
Hornworm pods with small to medium worms are ready to ship. Pods contain food to feed for 2-3 weeks. Each pod has 12-15 worms each. $9/pod plus shipping (Generally 10-12 bucks) The more pods you get at once, the cheaper to ship!! These guys are growing fast, so let me know if you want some so...
Hornworm Egg Removal
I just got done with this process myself. I found that just gently rolling the egg off the leaf between your fingers is best. The shells are pretty hardy, so you should be fine with that also! Just be gentle!
Donna,
I have several hornworms getting ready to pupate, they starting burrowing themselves about 3 days ago.. I just wonder what you are using for them to lay their eggs. From my understanding they need either a tobacco leaf or tomato leaf. Some input would be appreciated! Thanks!!
Bringing up old posts
It only seems appropriate to bring up the old post. Anybody have more information on breeding hornworms? My cham LOVES them! She nabs them faster than she goes after crickets! I have a couple ideas of how to set up a breeding system, but need some help!! Anybody been down...
I will most definately do that, BocaJan. Yeah, this is my first chammy, so I am still learning as I go! I don't think all the reading in the world could prepare you for actually having a chameleon!
Alright, well she actually produced 28 eggs last night. I have a feeling they are infertile since this is her first clutch, and she has not been introduced to a male to my knowledge.. Is it true they can hold sperm until ready to reproduce??
Update
Well good news! I got up this morning and checked on Fiona. I couldn't find her at first, but looked at the bottom of her cage which is dirt.. and I found she had been digging a hole! I located her in her cage, and she was a darkish color. So, I put her in the garbage can with dirt in it...
Well, no eggs today..
I have new supplements ordered and on the way! Thanks for setting me straight on that
No, she is not in complete darkness, its a thin white sheet, so she is still getting some light in there
I'll keep working with her, and let ya know!
Thanks for all the help!
