Black can be cold, black colors atracked the heat and white make you cooler. Or he is not happy, did anything happen around his viv? New plants and such around the outside of his viv?
What you can do is put a cloth over his viv and give him some privacy, if the dark remains see if the lamp...
They are most likely mites and need to be dealed with.
If they are white they are not bloodmites and will not be on your chameleon, red mites will be on your chameleon.
I use frontline to clean the viv and then air it out until the smell is gone.
They are a mountain chameleons from a place where there are no 70 degrees. 75 degredd for a day will kill them outright!
I have bred and kept them for years and they are not an easy species. When you are used to Veiled ones they are nothing like them!!
You need more vegetation, they are not...
First lett me tell you an I so sorry your chameleond died.
It sounds like that he had eather a problem with breathing, hence forth the tonque sticking out.
Or he eat something that he could not swalow, what do you use for bedding?
A vet can do a autopsie for you, but they are expensive...
Chameleons are reptiles that do no handle stress very well, so you watching him like hawk can make him nerves and not eat!
Just leave him alone for a while.
Is he still on a good weight? No hipbones showing or talebase showing?
Those are signs he is getting thinner and there for not eating...
They tend to get " sick" of one food oor prey item after a while. I keep at least 5 different prey items well at hand for situations like that.
My Mellers will stop eating now and again, but I alway's get thek back on track with green grasshoppers, or lighter prey items.
I am from America, but born in the Netherlands. I breed Melleri, verrucosus, senegalensis and johnstoni. I have other species like Panthers, some leaf species and veiled ones and some others. Chameleons are my life. I can no longer work due to fisical problem so I have enough time to rake care...
I have veiled chameleons do it as well and a good friend and fellow keeper told me they did it for some minerals that they are lacking in there diet. The only thing you need to be carefull off is constapation. If they do get cloged up a drop of vegtable oil in there mouth could work to help that...
Hi
I am new here and wanted to introduce my self.
I have been keeping chameleons for over 15 years and have been breeding them for over ten. In the years I have worked at reptileshelters and started my own for just chameleons.
To me they are the ultimate pet.
