I think that is because there are numerous people that have put them together incorrectly. I have put two together and had no issue. Sorry not trying to be rude, just saying.
Make sure that the hoses are tightly fitting into the intakes. If they are not you won't get the suction.
Also make sure that the hose isn't too kinked. You can loop them around, but if they are bent, it won't work.
Paper towel
The only thing that I would recommend using is paper towel. Cat litter maybe ingested, which could cause impaction, not to mention other issues if there are any deodorizing chemicals on it.
Hey

Give it a shot and see if it works. Can't hurt.
Lay bin

Not sure about the marking, but you really should know what your temps are, both ambient and basking. This is very important for keeping chams. If you are unsure of the temps check out the caresheet under care resources.
I am sure a more senior member will chime in about the marking.
Expos can be hit or miss from what I hear for chams. You should research some of the site sponsors and other trusted breeders that are members.
You live in the US so you have a lot of great options.
Fair enough that you want to give the expo a chance. I thought that I would throw in my...
Manitoba advice
Hey congrats on the move.
As you know I live close by to you, so I understand the weather issue. I had to take my Cham to the vet during the fall, which may not have been as cold, but still not warm.
I filled up a latex glove with hot tap water and put it on the bottom of...
First off really sorry to hear about your first chameleon. That is terrible.
In terms of UVB Arcadia is the best. I picked mine up at a local reptile store. One of the site sponsors is a lighting expert. You could check them out and order one there.
