I am a frantic new mom, with a touch of ADD, to an unfortunate little green Chameleon that we call, Blu. Blu clearly resents my ignorance and has no appreciation for my valiant effort to ensure that he remains alive lest I fall into the shameful category of FaceBook Chameleon Group Page statistic, which incidentally, I am now, at last count, a member of at least 12.

See, the way I figured, I could disperse my lack of knowledge, excessive questions, and embarrassing need for excessive reassurance amongst the various groups and they would be non-the wiser that this cross reptile is making me neurotic. I am a dog person yet, this tiny fragile little creature demands so much of time and he is even more petulant and needy than my grandmother in later years... despite his moods and detached behavior, he has captured my heart. I think they have a 12-step program for that.

I suppose my friend's impression that I was acting out impulsively when I purchased this funny looking little creature was not inaccurate. I was smitten with his eyes in opposition of each other. I happily l handed my credit card to the sweet young lady that presented me with adoption papers, an inflated bag of 25 jumping crickets, a Zoo Med Repti Breeze Chameleon Kit and as she handed me a clear plastic lidded bowl containing my new little liability, she smiled and thanked me. Then beaming confidence, she mentioned that Blu is indeed a female. She went on to explain that she had checked when retrieving him and assured it, “Because she doesn’t have balls”. At the time, it sounded perfectly logical. It was an impulsive decision to get a $59 critter that I know nothing about simply because his expression makes me smile and thus far, he has cost me close to $1,000 and reduced sleep these last few weeks.

Normally, I do my due diligence but after I brought Blu home, I soon read that the lights that come with the kit would kill him and he’d die a slow painful death riddled with MBD deformities and a nonfunctioning tongue. It went downhill from there. ...Incidentally, the “think tank” that conceived Zoo Med’s Repti Breeze Chameleon Kit should be sent to Siberia and denied vodka. It was a sinister mind that coined this, “200 MED Quality Starter Kit for ALL Old World Chameleons” coupled with including accessories that are intended to be installed/attached to the mesh enclosure with suction cups? It is a starter kit! They know we are clueless and will spend at least 30 minutes assembling it, an hour taking it apart and reassembling it with 3 screws remaining and no holes to put them in. Madness.

I am a novice and am diligently learning all that I can to keep this little alive.. no matter how many times he hisses at me. All ideas and suggestions are welcome.
Cheers!
