Hello been a while since I’ve posted.
Summer time is here and it is already reaching the 100s. Plus it is getting really dry.
To reach his lower night time temps we have to use air conditioning which really lowers the humidity.
I’ve had bad experiences with humidifiers and mold so what I’ve...
Been pretty successful these cold winter mornings keeping Aquaman hydrated (40 degrees outside). I’m convinced in these colder months these guys do not like to get wet like in the summer. So I allow him to free roam out of his cage before watering his enclosure and his plants. When he comes...
for a regular weekday, doing this takes care of watering the plants, hydrating the chameleon, and increasing overall humidity in the room (i usually air out first thing in the morning and humidity just drops)
i’ve used this method if i’m to leave the house for while longer in the summer or if i don’t expect to be home for the weekend. Id put a buncha ice cubes in a tray that had a hole and put on top of the cage.
In the past, I’d just setup a timer and run some sprinklers every so often but I was not sure if Aquaman was hydrating.
Running sprinklers too often with the lights on was never good for the live plants either.
I’ve found that turning off the lights then misting the cage for the plants worked...
I’ve posted before about Aquaman’s free range in our bedroom and I’ve noticed his grip is considerably stronger. I’m his tree person that when he says “let me out”, I open his cage and put him on his branch by the table. In photos I’ve noticed his legs have become thicc. I was worried in the...
I gave that a try actually, turning off all the lights and running the sprinklers plus using my handheld mister getting the enclosure super wet. He goes back on his own from the desk and he’s been drinking everyday since. He only does this in the morning and towards the end of the day...
Aquaman has only been going back to his enclosure to sleep and drink now. Not sure if he is mindfully going back for UVB as well so I’m still manually giving him UVB when out on his free range area just in case.
Other free range news, I got some monsteras about a month back and have been...
And he is ready to roam. This is his usual path. For some reason, the cage door is always his first stop. He then looks at the newest added vines that I added to connect his enclosure to the curtain rod before he makes his way for it.
Still drinking and catching UVB with his cage door open. Roam free when you please little guy. Had me worried the last couple days (hydration is my top concern living in the desert)
He has not been enjoying the desert sun when I give him natural sunlight as it is always above a 100 degrees out there. In the other seasons, he loves natural sunlight, but in the summer, he climbs me frantically until he is in shade. So the artificial UVB in the summer will have to do.
