Are Dubia roaches illegal to sell in America?

I mostly feed crickets, but my veiled chameleon absolutely loves dubias. I need to grab them more often for variety. Highly recommended and they're easy to care for, but in my experience more expensive than crickets which I get 1,000 at a time.Growing a dubia colony would be a really good idea.

Is it bad for chameleons to be able to see each other?

Both of mine are displaying bright colors, especially the Jacksons.

Is it bad for chameleons to be able to see each other?

I have my Jackson's and Veiled cages on opposite sides of my room about 12' apart. Just a couple days ago, my Jacksons apparently took notice of the veiled and now he spends a lot of time staring at the Veiled's cage. It's really strange how he stares really intensely and ignores me when I'm...

    Jackson preparations

That cage looks great. I have plastic fencing to assist with climbing on 3 sides of my cage. My Jackson's uses the whole cage to climb around and explore. He is much more active than my veiled, even though he's much less of a voracious eater (I rarely get to see him eat crickets or dubias that I...

    Civility and good will

That's a good question and my example answer was going to be bioactive but if that's pretty much mainstream now I'm not sure what it would be really. I always like seeing people succeed with their own twist on things though. Like the woman from Canada who free ranges Mellers who was on the...

My Jacksons Chameleon Escaped (but I found him)

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but my Jackson's escaped from his cage twice more since I posted! Yesterday I caught him in the same tree as earlier and today I searched and searched and he was walking on the edge of my bed. Unreal. It turns out it wasn't the door he was wedging his way through...

    Civility and good will

Overall, I think people are very friendly here but it's probably important to stay ahead of things and nip it in the bud if you've noticed the atmosphere getting worse. My only complaint is that on these types of forums after several years it just becomes people repeating care sheet information...

My Jacksons Chameleon Escaped (but I found him)

Earlier I got home after being gone for several hours. I looked in my chameleon cage and he was nowhere to he found. I searched for about 2 hours and actually took most of the plants and branches out and he was Nowhere to be found. Apparently I didn't secure the top latch and he was able to...

Why does my new veiled chameleon not want to eat?

Maybe she needs smaller food? I got a baby veiled recently, and right at first he would not eat the crickets I was offering because they were too big. However, he did immediately go after fruit flies and tiny dubias. A few weeks later and now he's going after crickets just fine. So maybe she...

    Fruit Flies for Baby Chameleon

I have a rice flour beetle culture that I use for a backup if I'm low on flies for my frogs. Will chameleons eat either rice flour beetles or the larvae? Dart frogs like the larvae but they mostly won't eat the actual beetles, even though they're tiny. Apparently they have an off putting smell.

    Basking bulb

I have an arcadia deep heat projector over my leopard gecko tank. I don't have a thermostat but I do have a dimming fixture I'm able to regulate the temp pretty well with (it varies some with the room temp). I've thought of trying one with a chameleon at some point. Right now I have a 43 watt...

    Basking bulb

Dollar General is a good place to find incandescent bulbs (everyone is switching to LED so they're not as available as they used to be). The have a "50 watt equivalent" bulb that puts out 43 watts. And a "75 watt equivalent" which I think is 63 watts. They come in packs of 2 for just a few bucks.

    New UV light

I believe Lexan allows UV to pass through, but it's usually thicker than the flimsy plastic used as a cover on the Zilla fixture from what I've seen.

    New UV light

Did you get yours at Petco? They price match from their website so the "desert" Zilla T8 fixture would be $38. Or you can order a Zoomed T5 fixture (with bulb) on amazon for $50 for the 24" or $36 for the 14" (bulbs are slightly shorter than the fixture). Those T5 fixtures come with 5.0 bulbs.

    New UV light

Just out of curiosity, have you measured the output of compact fluorescent bulbs? A 26W 10.0 bulb, for example? The Zoomed chameleon kit comes with a 13W 5.0 and everyone tells people not to use it, but what if someone used the 26W 10.0 CFL to get by for a while? I wonder what the actual UVB...
