I have the quad fixture as well, also mostly for the plants (which are doing great under it by the way). When the lights are coming on first thing in the morning and starting to shut down in the evening I do think it looks a bit too dim with only two bulbs on.

That's actually a great idea, thanks! I've seen the wall murals but didn't think to use one of those. You're not the first person I've heard say that the realistic-looking backgrounds has caused some confusions with their chams. I wonder how common that is and whether it outweighs the benefit...
