I have a digital thermometer that I use to get the temp. And I thought it must just be too hot and that's why I moved the light, but as you can see he decided he just needed to climb an inch away from the light now...
The thing I'm worried about is just the fact that hell start gaping, but then...
Also I'm on my phone so I apologize for the picture, I don't know why it's upside down haha. He's hanging on to the screen vertically, not upside down.
So I have a 1 year old male veiled chameleon. He seems healthy except for one little issue - he constantly gapes while basking. Now, the Cage is the standard "large" screened cage, 4X2X2ft, room temperature is 75 and basking areas are 88-90. Originally his vine was about five inches below the...
Also I'm not irritated at all with everyone who was trying to be helpful with the lighting! I only referenced coming home at 1 to indicate it was the middle of the night and he was definitely sleeping, since in the pic it looks like he's in the middle of walking off somewhere.
Haha I guess I should have given the thread a different title! I just posted this because I thought it was hilarious. My boy here has done some pretty brilliant things in his life, but sleeping while standing up completely was a new one!
So the other day my roommate and I were sitting in the living room. My roommate was sitting on a little couch next to the chameleon cage, and was sitting sideways on it so that her face was at the far end of the couch but facing the chameleon cage.

Thank you both so much! that makes me feel much better, Ill definitely be bringing him in when the day highs start dropping, but since its so nice during the days I didnt want to bring him in yet, I was just worried about the night temps! Glad to see they havent gotten too low yet :)
I have a male veiled chameleon who is about 10 months old. I live in Florida so I have been keeping him on a screened in porch since May. My question though is concerning how long I can leave him outside.
What is the lowest temperature that I can keep him outside at? Currently the Highs are...
Thank you camimom for all of your input!
I took this picture tonight, he was already asleep but you can see his leg dangling....
tomorrow I will try to take a better one from the other side that shows his neck/leg better!
Also, for anyone else reading this, I emailed the vet about his xrays...
Oh and Kinyonga, I have never seen him eating the rubber plant and I dont see bite marks in the leaves. The crickets are in a separate container away from the plant. And is it really not safe? I thought it was! I'm pretty sure I had seen it on at least one list of safe plants, and I had kept one...
Hmm Im not sure if they look yellow or not....I haven't gotten a good look since im usually stalking him with a syringe when his mouth is open.
As of his last two visits at the vet they've been normal looking though, she hasn't commented on it at least ....
And Julirs, I will be sure to ask...
