Katydids and Cicadas?

I think Katydids would do fine as they are in the same order as grasshoppers and crickets, but I wouldn't ge giving them cicadas, as I haven't seen animals eating them in nature even when they are extremely aboundant...why would you be gicing cicadas anyway, they are not easy to catch?

Well, I was asking because as I was outside doing recordings of gray treefrogs, a cicada whacked me in the back, so I stuck him in a jar I had and found a katydid as well, so I was going to hold them until I got the verdict, even though I know the cicada won't live much longer.

If your certain they have not been exposed to pesticides they would be fine.
Cicadas are eaten by lots of animals and are found in natural chameleon habitats where I can only assume they make up a decent percentage of the food these animals consume in the wild.

I understand that certain populations of parsonii love cicadas, and that they compose a large portion of their diet. If there's a reason parsonii are as big as they are, and have such massive jaws, cicadas could be that reason.

I hear melleri like them too. I'm just a bit apprehensive of feeding an animal that's spent many many years in the ground, giving it a longer time to be exposed to parasites and pesticides.

I've heard horror stories abotu katydids. A friend of mine used them to get freshly imported parsonii to start eating. Thing was, they seemed to be loaded with parasites in his area.
