Calcifer Move

Since we moved into our new house, chameleons have been in their temporary location for about one month. So, today's task, in addition to cage cleaning, was to move Calcifer's and Kermit's cage to the front living room where we get to see them more often.

In our previous place, their double cage was in the living room, which had some low traffic and they would be able to see us. Their temporary location had been a bedroom and had human movement except for feeding/spraying. One strangeness I've noticed during this time was that Calcifer was acting less friendly by the day. I thought it was the stress of the move but, even after two weeks he would pretty much always be running into his umbrella plant when he saw me. Every once in a while, he would display a defensive stance as well. Kermit(female) on the other hand, had no problems whatsoever. She was in her usual behave-like-a-dog mood. One time while I was spraying Calcifer, he gave me a long stare and then jumped 4 ft down. Weirdo.

By moving them into an area that will provide similar characteristics of their previous location before the move, I'm hoping that he will get more acclimated to us. He's still my number one.

Here are two photos from today taken after the move. Enjoy!

Calcifer looks great!
Once again, you gave all of us some awesome photos to enjoy.
I can't believe Calcifer hasn't grown on you.
You've had him since he was a little runt, right?
I've had Igor since he was about two months old, and he is doesn't mind people one bit.
Now, if you decide to open he cage and stick your hand inside, then you will feel the wrath of Igor The Invincible.:D
The only time he has ever hid from me was when he was outside for a few months.
For some reason, natural sunlight turns veiled chameleons into nasty little buggers.

Gotta get back to work!

That's exactly what I told him yesterday when I took those photos. I said "You were this big! This big!" while showing him the small space between my fingers. After caring that long, look at what's he doing to me. I guess that's just natural. He'll still eat a juicy silky from your hand running across the cage any given day, though. Every once in a while he likes displaying his body pancaking skills!

I did start wearing gloves while moving him. I can stand his claws but not going to take a chance in a trip to the hospital for stitches.

That's also something I've observed with veileds taken outdoors. They either transform into vicious monsters with gaping mouths when you plop them on a tree or they keep their behind-the-branch position while you are going around them. I like how water distracts their mad mood, though.
