New setup for our Ambilobe

So as many of you know, we decided to get our new cham from a breeder after the unfortunate passing of our rescued veiled Rosie. We upgraded from our 18x18x24 glass enclosure to an 18x18x36 screen cage for our male ambilobe. I put it all together today and we put some vines and plants (ficus & pothos) in to get it all ready. Heres a picture of the setup as it stands now. We are getting another plant, most likely a hibiscus to reach close to the top & to generally fill it more with live plants.

Im posting this mainly to be critiqued on the setup. we want everything to be perfect for our new little guy when he comes on thursday so any extra advice would be awesome .

again the setup is:
Screen 18x18x36 cage
fake vines and live plants
It is on a 2'8" stand bringing the very top of the cage to 5'7"
Using a exo terra duel top w/ a 15" reptisun 5.0 bulb & a 15" naturesun 2.0
basking with a zoomed 75w basking bulb
the basking spot it aprox 8" from the bulb.

Also, we would love to hang our pothos and are wondering how you all go about doing that. We've seen pictures of people using dowels over the top of the cage but we really don't want to do that. Personally, we just don't think it looks all that great. Any other ideas??

Thanx everybody

Hey Mate,

the top looks a little sparse..

Good job on the live plants though :) Im still waiting till summer to buy mine in bulk from the nursery.

2 live plants will do well for the humidity and such, just keep the misting adequate.

A solution to the spareness would be to add some fake leaves and vines - perhaps create some more walk ways by the basking area and such.

For this, you can use Michael's if you have one locally - I bought a vine there last night much similar to a zoo med one, except this one was 4.99 and the zoo med was 12.99.

Just spruce up the top with some more foliage, and I think your set for the cham to come on home. :)

I got some foliage there too. They have long ( '4 ) vines. They are on a plastic chain so it is easy to string them on a dowel or bio-vine.

Yea we knew the top would be a little bare so i think im going to use he fake plants for now i just have to figure out how to get them on there...

Thanks for the info :)

You could put his plant on a stand and raise it :)

You should put a horizontal stick 6-8 inches from the top so he has a place to stretch out and bask

I use fishing line to tie things to the cage and to hang fake vines.

Can't wait to see the little guy

I use florists wire to hang the vines...get it at michaels, walmart, wherever. Put it through a hole in the mesh, around the vine, out the other hole, and just twist it together! No tying necessary :) It isn't very noticeable either.

I like the idea of using the florist wire as opposed to fishing line. I'd be afraid the line would some how hurt his hands because I know for a fact that it can be harmful to hands, let alone a small reptile!

I was planning on going to Michael's today to check out their selection of vines and things like that. We had some fake plastic plants however, when I was sterilizing them in boiling water (I had seen a post about that on this site) it completely ruined them! We want to get a hibiscus as well, but right now they are not being sold here in NJ, so we just have to wait till probably closer to May.
