i would have to agree. the mv can provide both. i beefed up my foilage to give more places to reteat to. and when shaded they still get uvb. with simulated shade, what happens when they go into the shade do they then recieve no uvb?
i have used a mega-ray now for about 9 months. my male veiled has no sign of uv burn. his color has improved greatly. on the negitive side it does zap alot of humidity from the air. i don't use it for basking heat though. i use a 75 watt water resitant bulb. i had a blood smear done last month...
thanks. he is in 18" round 36"tall right now. i am getting ready to go to lowes to get the stuff to make a new cage with drainage tub(18X24X30). then i can hook up the mist king. has anyone free ranged a jacksons? I put him on a large scheff while i hooked up his dripper. he looked very happy.
i fed mine as much as he would eat at first.(15-25 large a day) I was told on this forum that could be bad. so i gradualy cut him down to 10-15.that was from age 5 months to 7 months. he is about 22" long now at 1 year old. this might be the reverse for you. it may have adapted to eating less.
a simular thing happend to me. I would post hundreds of posters in the area saying, "chameleons stolen from breeding ranch any tip leading to perpatrators will be rewarded with *say* $100.00." you would be suprised at how quick someone will rat. i had a skate board stole from in front of my...
Hello, just got back from reptile expo. I got a male jacksons from brad ramsey. it is soo little compared to my veiled. having said this i am thinking the enclosure i have is too big. what is the proper size for juvie-adult jacksons? also do they eat plants?
i put a paper towel tube in with mine. it fits snug onto the plastic bottle i use for dusting. i put it on bottle and tap a few times, thats all it takes. no chance for escape.
i have no experience with ceramic heaters. i like you thought i was gonna be able to do it all with one bulb. Tip i also use a timer that makes my (mega-ray) come on 2hrs after basking light comes on. and 2hrs earlyier than it shuts off to better simulate true dusk and dawn. the risk would be...
thats what i would suggest. i have used that setup for about 5 months. i use a 60w outdoor bulb for heat( it is splash resistant, i have auto mister and dripper. i don,t want bulb to shatter.) but 60-75 watt standard bulb is fine.?? is that a florecent light on top?
mercury varpour lights can have 6 feet of usable UVB, that is why they arent good sources of heat. and i was wrong on distance.100 watt flood – 12”
160 watt flood – 18”
275 watt flood – 24”
yes distance is very important. if that is the product listed above, it should be placed no closer than 12-15in from top of enclosure. in your case (160w) i would go about 16in. this may not be close enough to generate sufficent heat. most of these super UVB bulbs cant be used as basking lights...
i think i am going to try one out. i made my water receptical out home depot bucket and a deeprock style water bottle that goes ontop. easy to fill that way. i get water from walmart $.29 a gallon. but you never know. that isn,t a lot of money to me at least that is one less thing to worry...
